Hi I originally cancelled my sky subscription after moving to south of Italy for a spell but with the arrival of my sky + box I realised when I changed the default transponder some channels were availale obviously not the bbc itv c5 etc. So I renewed my package got a great deal £14 pm for a year and great I have a lot more channel especially the kids nick junior and universal I am still running a mono LNB until I get a dual so I am aware of the recording restrictions. My questions are 1/ Is there a way to use my mono as a dual or is the frequency locked down once I am using it preventing being able to use a second frequency? and 2/ I have noticed that iplayer 40d itv player and rest of them are available but I can't seem to record from them they fail straight away is this a/ related to the Italian ip address I am using (and if so is there a way of spoofing it) or b/ because I am running a mono block?

Sorry for the long post but best explain once properly, Thanks in advance.

If you want to record two programmes or view one and record another you need an LNB with at least two outputs and two cables running to the Sky box. You can't split a single output as the signals may come from different polarities and frequency bands.

For on demand downloading, your Sky box is indeed failing due to the Italian IP address. You need to route your connection via a UK VPN or a SmartDNS provider but be aware Sky sometimes also block these IP addresses.

Hi Timo

thanks for the reply. Yep I think I knew this but I wasn't 100% sure. Any suggestions on smart DNS or UK VPN.

thanks again

Overplay SmartDNS is currently working for me and it's not going to break the bank if it goes down... (I just hope Sky don't log users using these services and disable their viewing cards, but then I'm a bit paranoid about these things)

I'm in Italy as well, as Timo says you need to fool Sky into thinking you're still in the UK.I got myself a preconfigured VPN router from these guys, https://www.ukproxyserver.com/
Just connects with a network cable to your Italian providers modem and you have a UK wifi all over the house/flat. Works with Sky, tvcatchup, ITV player, BBC iplayer, the lot. No problems here anymore with BBC1!!! Highly recommended.

If you use Overplay SmartDNS you do not need to set it up in the router. You do it directly on the Sky box.

Their support is good. A few months ago Sky changed something and it stopped working. I opened a ticket and they got to work on the problem straight away and resolved it for everyone.
