I got exited too. Why sky wont promote BBC Channels as encrypted version over Europe on European beam?
northern europe is really unlucky with the new PE beams, but more chance for the UK beam than where i am...It's good news for those who can get one of the 2E/2F satellites better than the other as now all versions will be on the EPG.
Not so good news for me, it looks like you need to pay Sky to have HD on 101 and 102, and I ain't paying extra for HD...
really? i though it was the other way round...creating the narrow beam is more costly, no?The UK spots are marginally cheaper to rent than the pan Euro transponders...
Perhaps once when there was a limited amount on 2D, but now there are loads, maybe it no longer applies?really? i though it was the other way round...creating the narrow beam is more costly, no?
I think you are misinterpreting Alex Pryde's comments. She said PE is "not cost effective" for the BBC because of broadcast rights. In my opinion that meant the Beeb would have to pay more for rights (to distribute over a wider area), or only use the transponder for rights free material, not that rental of a PE beam transponder is more expensive. The UK spots are marginally cheaper to rent than the pan Euro transponders which is why the wide beam transponders were the ones that were dropped in favour of the uk spots a couple of years ago.
In England. The other 3 countries are regions so in those cases 101 is in HD.It won't change until such time as Auntie gets around to providing Regionalised BBC 1 output in HD.
Makes more sense now. I did think it was odd to have BBC 1 HD on 101 in England. The BBC thread has been updated:

Someone cocked up with the info about BBC1 HD on the original version......
