Hi :-) I have just been away for a week and came back to find no BBC NEWS 24, I live in Eastern Czech. I looked straight here to find out why, so this is now impossible for me to receive? That would be a great shame... I assume 2D can't be received here, as the screen is blue.

BBC News has moved to Astra 2D.

This is due to the BBC cost cutting excercise currently underway - one off the widebeam transponders is closing down

You can watch BBC World News fta off 19E

Thank you for that, I will look on my SKY box to see where that is, I haven't watched BBC WORLD before here. I just re read the first post and realise this isn't really the place to ask questions, sorry... ;-) Thanks for the answer though. Keep well.

Ive split the posts off the psb channels thread.

You will need some extra equipment get BBC World News - a dish aligned to 19E and probably an extra receiver as the Sky boxes are more or less useless when used away from 328E

Also you will no longer be able to access the BBCi channels via BBC News if you ever used them.

Man you are quick ;-) I just was having a look at my old thread which kicked off my interest in this about 3 years ago. My wife is gutted, she loves BBC News 24 and we watched Wimbledon through it this year, amongst other things, so this is a real disappointment. I then hunted in the fringe area map thread, but couldn't find any more information, the map doesn't work (I read why as well). I would prefer to keep the SKYBOX and I am trying to find out now what is the minimum dish requirement, but it looks like it will have to be a 2.4 metre dish or more maybe and my wife hates this idea. I guess I need to tell her it is down to this : Big Dish or no BBC News 24... I might not be getting lucky for a long time!

In the eastern Czech Republic you could easily be looking at 3.5m or bigger. And even if you spend €1000's on a new dish theres no guarantee you will keep reception once the new satellites start coming into service in a couple of years.

Its not exactly the same but Id recommend BBC World News via 19E or 13E on a second generic fta receiver. As a bonus you can then also put an electronic switch into the circuit and access the BBCi streams on 28E direct - most receivers will see the BBCi stuff no problem..

If this is something you might be interested in post and we can explore it at greater depth

Oh yes - the changed BBCi streams can currently be manually tuned even on Sky boxes.

DO an add channels on 11954H 27500 2/3 and store the 64xx channels.

There is no guarantee the channels will stay available once the frequency change settles down but you never know

It sounds like they are trying to spoil all our fun... ;-) I was just reading about dual offset dishes and thinking (drooling) about the possibility of using one to get the job done. When I hear you talking about 3.5 metre dishes, I can't help but think of Mr Schumacher in Brazil. I guess there is no magic fix.

Regarding the previous answer more specifically, I will do so, once I fully understand what you mean about the switches etc. Not being churlish, just somewhat dorkish!

BBC World is, IMHO, far superior to News 24.

And if you do go "off 28E", even Sky News International is fairly worthy.

BBC World is OK, I do prefer BBC 24 though and I like getting the special events we used to get, like Wimbledon, for example, through BBC News 24, which won't be available through BBC World. I am currently looking at Slingbox, wondering if this will solve my problems at all. Not fully understanding how the connections would work though. I don't disagree about Sky News, either, it is OK, but we do prefer BBC News 24...

Very simple

Two feeds off the 28E dish.

Cable 1 goes to the Sky box as now

Cable 2 goes to input 1 on the electronic switch

Install a second dish for 19E or 13E. (BBC World is on both so it doesnt matter)

Coax from the dish goes to input 2 on the electronic switch

The output from the electronic switch goes to the generic fta receiver. This now has access to 28E and 13E/19E

Wimbledon etc. will be on the BBCi feeds. See advice on this other thread http://www.satellites.co.uk/forums/...h-october-2011-expats-info-2.html#post1002709

A slingbox is certainly an optiojn. The source box is connected to a satellite box in western Europe and you watch the output in the Czech Republic.

You need a FAST upload broadband at the remote site - preferably getting on for 1 meg up. And be aware that if its connected to a family box if you change channel then you change it at the far end.

Thing is, I am not sure I can show the content on my TV, looks to only show on my computer. I need to give this some thought and fully understand it first.

Thanks,

Paul.

Slingcatcher, or tv out on your videocard which you connect to the tv.
