It's being filmed in 1080i59.94 not p

Nothing is done in 1080i. It's just a "stupid" TV format.Certainly, the production is at least in 1080p.

Oh dear me - the coverage sounds horrendous

Rio Olympics: NBC slated for opening ceremony time lag - BBC News

NBC responded to online criticism by saying that its team needed time to edit the ceremony and put it into context for viewers in the US.

Whilst the national commentators for every other country managed quite fine and their citizeens understood the context of the live pictures quite nicely??

It was an absolute joke and I had no way to watch it live anywhere. Land of the free they say? Yeah, right....

On a general note, watching the Brazil transmissions and lots of smiling people is quite a fresh breeze (in spite of any doping, IOC money movers or local troubles). And compared to the Death Olympics from Syria regularly seen on tv, the Brazil arrangement is heaven.
