Comic artist Leo Baxendale has died aged 86.

Creator of the Bash Street Kids and Minnie The Minx, he was an inspiration to many comic artists following later, and will surely be remembered by many comic readers here for his signature style.

Have to confess though that I was more of an Eagle reader, and earlier, The Knockout (not the later version).

A very sad loss indeed. I remember his artistry with great affection both in the Beano and later on in Wham and Smash where I just loved Grimly Feendish.

Have to disagree with the Guardian on one point though; I thought that Lord Snooty and his Pals was a Dudley D Watkins creation.

Only ever bought a handful of comics, and only when there was a free cardboard and paper banger or squirty ring :rolleyes: but Leo was inspirational in generating a child's imagination.
