Anyone had any luck with this satellite I can get it with a dustbin lid here in Cyprus I've just moved here and made me think about this one at home , I know she's a nearly impossible one though.

Many have tried and all have failed. I think only @nelson_b managed to catch a couple of odd non-BeIn transponders from Eshail-1.

Eshail-2 is a little stronger and I can get a few TPs on the 1.8m dish, including the 10930V one, which carries a couple of Sport Max channels. It's very hit and miss though.

You best bet is to catch these on 8W, which is a lot stronger and they come in OK on my 1.8m and you could probably get away with a 1.2m...

Until now...

moonbase did not fail.

I have attached a couple of pictures below showing the beIN Sports frequency of 11642 H, SR 27500 locked using a Dr HD F15 receiver on a 35m length run of Webro WF100 cable.
The beIN Sports frequency of 11566 H. SR 27500 is also hovering around a lock at 6.3db to 6.4db (lock level is 6.6db).

I think with a shorter cable run using WF125 cable I might possibly get one or two more of the beIN Sports frequencies to lock, subject to weather conditions.

Is this on your 1.8m dish?

Is that recent? Good catch! Not seen a peep from Eshail 1 here on my 1.8m

The catch was this morning, it is still locked at the moment but encrypted.

As with other satellites, there is fluctuation of signal levels during the day.
I tracked the evolution and found that it tailed off in the evening and seemed to increase from morning to late afternoon.
However, to exclude weather conditions as a variable it would need to be tracked over a few days.

I am just wondering if it's also a seasonal thing or a recent increase in signal overall. Did you get any signal before today, say a few years ago?

The signal level evolution table and chart for yesterdays tracking are attached below.

Today so far has slightly improved signals compared to yesterday.
It is only thin sporadic cloud at the moment and is colder than yesterday so possibly less atmospheric resistance to signals?

I'm back

I managed to lock another one of these beIN frequencies today from Es'hail-1 at 25.5E.
This time it is 11566 H, SR27500 with signal level of 6.6dB.

The two beIN frequencies locked so far are 11566 H and 11642 H, both with SR of 27500
The Al Jazeera frequency of 11604 H, SR 27500 is the strongest on the satellite here at my UK location, its a decent marker to use for alignment.

Pictures attached below.

For anyone dish wishing to try locking signals from this satellite, my personal experience is that morning to mid afternoon seems to be the best time for a UK location.

I think I have now done all I can with this satellite.

The end result is three frequencies locked including two of the beIN Sports frequencies.
The other frequencies are about 1dB below a lock and I have almost run out of "tweaks".

I have attached a table of the results below, it can probably be considered as the final table unless I can conjure up 1 dB from somewhere.
I hope the table has some amusement value or may possibly be useful to any other UK located dx'ers trying to lock signals from Es'hail-1.

I am surprised... I can get most Es'hail 2 transponders without any real fine tuning.

10730H and V
10770H and V
10850H
10890H
11310H
11350V
11390H and V
11430V

Not a peep from Es'hail 1 but my Enigma box doesn't show SNR under lock.

It seems to be a good day for dx'ing with clear skies and low temperatures here in the Southern UK?
However, the signal levels for some of these frequencies does seem to be time dependent with highs and lows over the course of a day.

Moonbase, is it the case that with ordinary rg6 cable you couldn't have locked this transponder. About how much db can a good cable bring on board on a fringe satellite?

I generally only use Webro WF100 cable and that was the cable I used for the test.

A good cable can make a marginal difference on shorter cable runs.
However, if you are not locking this frequency with RG6 cable I dont see why you would be locking it with WF100 cable unless you were fractions of a dB short of a lock and the WF100 got you over the line.

Thanks. This was helpful.

Nowt new to report from Es'hail-1 at 25.5 East.

One of the The Al Jazeera frequencies is still locking 24/7 along with one of the bein sports frequencies.
Another one of the bein sports frequencies is quite close to a lock but the signal level is fluctuating and is dependent on the time of day.

Location: Surrey, UK
Latest screen grabs are attached below:

I assume you know you have to move your dish a little to the west to get Es'hail 1?
When my 1.80m dish is pointed at Badr 4 I have no signal on Es'hail 1, after moving it I can only get Al Jazeera SD on 11604 H...

Yeah I moved it back and forth to try and get a lock but I need to try the frequencies you and moonbase mentioned..
