Both OpenPli and DreamElite are good and stable images on the DM500HD. I have not bothered to look at other images as these pprovide all the functionality and stability I need.
 
Thanks shumifan, can u please confirm if this is the image,Dream Elite BH 1.2.4 OE1.6 DM500HD Multiboot. Also, can u please specify the name of the pli image that u used for the dream 500hd. Thanks a lot
 
Dream Elite 1.2.4 OE 1.6 is the best there is, no question.
 
I use the nightly build of OpenPli from the OpenPli website (although I actually build it myself).
I very strongly recommend you stay away from anything that says MULTI-BOOT. This could very well cause your dreambox to become unstable - there have been many discussions about this, but none of the image developers (even those that supply a multi-boot image) will provide any support for multi-boot setups.
I would agree with Sonic that DreamElite is probably the best image as most of the stuff that has to be installed as addons in Pli is standard in DreamElite. Once Pli is fully configured, they are much of a muchness, but OpenPli is much more work to set up.
 
Dream Elite 1.2.4 OE 1.6 is the best there is, sorry to ask this, are there two versions for this image, one with multiboot and without multiboot. thank you
 
No only one version, Dream Elite call it multiboot because they developed and released the multiboot option. Personally I have no intention of adding a USB, it's just not needed.

had some bad idea about DreamEliteBH_DM500HD_124.nfi image, I thinked that my box was dead becasue i use this image(was working perfectly before losing green led)
 
Took Sonics advice and installed Dream Elite 1.2.4 OE 1.6 (Thanks Sonic! :-righton)
Installed via my browser rather than DreamUp, installed no problem at all. Runs very smooth, no hang ups or freezing, CCcam works very well, with fast channel zapping - very impressed with this image!
 
I use the PLI image, only couse the Dream Elite 1.2.4 OE 1.6 dont read subtitles from media files, only have 1 problem de external esata hdd. Just dont work. It works fine with the original dream image, but i cant make it work with PLI, and the support forum is in dutch mainly. The drem Elit support is not mutch better, they usualy sais the problem (any problem they cant solve) is Dreambox responsability, even wen that problem dont exist in others images.
The PLI sometimes crash wen I read media files from mounted CIF directory in the pc. But the subs reads fine.
One detail, you need to convert de subs file to UFT-8.
 
I have estata drive working perfectly with Dream Elite, have you mapped and mounted the drive correctly ?
 
Its probably my fault, abaut the HDD. I´m getting crazy with this, and i can`t find any tuturial or post how to do it. What i meant is, in the original image i just need to format and the esata hdd work`s immediately. In the PLI, i dont try in others but i wil, i dont now how to do it and i cant find any elp on the forum.
If you can tell me how to do it I thank you.
 
Blue button twice > then devices manager > from here you should see your HDD, you now need to map and then reboot box.
 
I decided to have a 'play' with some different images, thinking I was missing something.
So I installed:-
Merlin-2.Excalibur_OE-1.6-dm500hd-20100411
Dream Elite BH 1.2.4 OE1.6 DM500HD Multiboot
OoZooN

I very quickly came to the conclusion that they are all the same.
I want my Dm to:-
Install CCcam
watch TV
have an EPG & list of channels
Record TV
connect to my LAN
Watch avi/mkv files
play MP3s

nice to have:-
CCcam reporting - ecm time, SNR/BNR, channel info

Again, all the images did the above; so what's the difference?
Minor ways in presenting information on-screen - that's it!!
 
DTS on all dreamboxes is a 'passthrough' - it isn't decoded. You have to have a DTS capable amp.
But - yes - the passthrough works.

Well i have tried all images. I was searching for a image that could run newcs and cccam. Now all the images can do that. But i had problems with all of them. Finally i installed the LT image and everything works fine. It works faster than OOzoon, it won't crash HDD like Dream Elite. But all the images basicly do the same
