Guys,

I am looking to purchase a fairly large satellite dish.

12-16ft

Can anyone recommend a place/website that sells dishes of that size ?

Try posting in the Indian sub section as well - some of the members in that section seem to have contacts.

Ideally I'd like to buy it in Europe. I can ship it easily and the locally produced dishes are of poor quality.

Plus cost shouldn't really be too much of an issue.

Are you looking for a fixed dish, or one that can be steered with a motor

Which frequencies C/Ku, both, or others ?

Do you want to track inclined orbit satellites at any time in the future ?

Im in Pakistan (Islamabad) and looking to pick up 7E - Ku Band.

http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/ew3a_eura.html

I am told you can get a small signal with an 8ft dish. I am going to do some testing next week to make sure thats true. (I already get hotbird with my 8ft dish).

We will need to be something significantly bigger, as id like to get a 100% signal. If I am going to do it, i'd like to do it properly.

It will be a fixed dish, I assume prime focus (simply because thats what everyone else has). Happy to be guided by yourselves.

Well, first of all then would be a Ku compatible dish.

Now, location and dish structure. Is it windy where you are or is the dish going to be installed on a mast above the house ?

Hi,:)

Not in Europe, but closer to your country... United Arab Emirates seems to be the best place, particularily their biggest satellite market.

I had a different dish on my mind, namely 420 cm Jonsa aka Fortecstar. I have seen on a Dutch online shop that the Jonsa 420cm dish can be purchased for a FIFTH of the five figure sum you mentioned above. Maybe it's even cheaper in let's say, Dubai. But I don't know for sure, as I've never been to Dubai and never bought a big dish.:)

There's one bulgarian manufacturer of dishes. Prices are reasonable, and quality also, but remember, best dishes are made in USA. Contact prodelin or channel master...

Its easier for me to ship from the UK. Our main delivery address is there.

The dish will be placed on top of our building. Its a large two storey building. I need to cut back a large tree also. I can also arrange for the roof to be reinforced if thats necesssary.

Weather conditions in Islamabad are mostly calm (with occassion thunder storms). General wind is not a problem although gusts during the thunder storms can pick up speed quickly.

Can anyone advise some good sites for a dish of this size ?

There is at least one reason why the Jonsa is a fifth of the price of a quality dish.

ive decided to purchase a local dish. I can pick a 3.6m solid dish for around £700 as a tester.

When it all goes belly up (after a few storms) will recommend to the committee to replace with a UK dish.

Anyway i will let you know how it goes.
