Better signal through air purity ?

I doubt it is anything to do with the system here, but the small dish is picking up channels from Sirius that it was hard pushed to do last week, last month or even last year.

Visibly the skys are a clear blue in this part of the world, then then they were clear a week ago just before sunset, but the signal wasn't.

Has anyone else noticed a marked improvement in the past 24 hours (in Western Europe) without touching anything ?
 
Had a quick scan through, no noticeable difference.
 
Can't say I've seen any change. Any particular channels?
 
i was viewing some feeds on 8west and they was good signal maybe i caught it at a good time with it being inclined

i always thought the signal was better when the weather was clear, this not the case ?
 
I would put it down to the level of water vapour in the atmosphere.

Much of the Scandinavian beam of Sirius is now coming in with both constant picture/sound, where last week, it was only getting the European stuff, and the odd snippet of Northern channels once or twice a day.

This is from a rather second hand 60cm dish pointing at 5E, used just for the FTA Ukranian stuff.
 
Looks like a lot of ash is drifting over Scandinavia, so it might be ALC kicking in.
 
I don't have Sirius installed now, but I noticed average 10-15% increase in signal quality from 19.2E, compared to 2 week ago results. Weather was clear in both cases.

Water vapour may help low frequency (sub-microwave) propogation (and the old motorbikes certainly benefit from early morning mist), but not Ku band.

At a guess:

the wind is coming from the north. Therefore its not moving over warm water masses. Therefore its got less vapour in it than normal.
 
Checked 5e Nordic beam, receive fine anyway but no noticeable signal increase.
120 services via 7W this morning though.
 
Getting a better signal on 23.5e for some reason:S
 
Actually signals are not as good here. Verticals from 7°W not as strong as normal and I've lost some fringe transponders on 4°W that normally are ok during the day time. Obviously the ash cloud is above us here, whereas it has probably moved away from the UK to some extent. The farmer has also started spreading muck in the field next door but I think that's only creating a low level atmospheric disturbance!!
