I'm surprised that the unit treating him was in Stoke. That's got to be a three hour journey unless he was helicoptered there.
 
UHNM Stoke is a major trauma centre covering a pretty wide area.

Well, the hospital outside of Bangor (is it still called the C&A?) has a helipad so a helicopter could have been involved both arriving and departing.
