Can anyone tell me which satellite BFBS TV transmits from, H or V, FEC etc? And what
method of encryption do they use?
Thanks,
Viktor.

10E is the main one, 11221 V 30000 DVB-S2 QPSK 5/6, but also some of the channels are listed on 57E and 40.5W, but only C Band.

From memory I think you have very little chance of opening them, as they use a special receiver, and card, but they were once broadcast FTA, Free to Air, for a short time, but that was a number of years ago.

BFBS cards are incredibly hard to get hold of as you need to be a member of the UK war machine to qualify & apparently anyone found to be allowing their card to be misused in sharing schemes will have their military benefits withdrawn

Thanks for the replies. Who owns/operates the 10E satellite?
Viktor.

What do you need BFBS for? If you get freetv it's all there. Have a look at the EIT of the BFBS transponder. Is that what you want to watch? ;)

Though BFBS was one of the reasons I started with this hobby. I used to listen to John Peel and David Rodigan (Rodigan's Rockers) on BFN FM radio in Germany. Where I am now I couldn't get it any more but I figured out that the radio stations were on some analogue subcarriers at 27,5W if I remember right. The digital radio streams at 10E are still there unencrypted but my favourite radio programs are gone..

Back in the early 90s I had a dish set up for Intelsat 27.5W so I could pick up BFBS radio in Helsinki. I remember Rodigan's Rockers and John Peel but the main reason for me was to pick up The Steve Mason Experience which I used to tape every week and share with class mates at school on a weekly basis as the type of music played was very difficult to get hold of in Finland at the time (pre-Internet radio and MP3 days!). This resulted in a number of letters being sent to the programme from various people in Helsinki, which seemed to confuse the presenter as they weren't aware of the station being broadcast in Finland or any British Forces bases here. ;)

Civilians in the Falkland Islands who are too far away to receive DTT transmissions seem to be able to avail of BFBS transmissions on SES6 at 40.5 West - the link below appears to describe info on a technical upgrade to transmissions earlier this year...

...AFAIK the BFBS transmissions are also used to provide TV terrestrially on Ascension Island and Tristan Da Chuna.

I remember we had a BFBS FM transmitter operated by the British forces here in Malta for the local British serviceman stationed here. But no TV Transmissions. It was a good station, enjoyed by both local and British expats.

Ah Malta! My first overseas detachment after graduating from RAF Locking in 1962. Fond memories of me and a few colleagues checking out the local bars in Straight Street (the Gut) the first night after our squadron arrived!! :p

Glad to have stirred up some memories....Straight Street, Alias Strada Streta as is it known to the Maltese, is no longer that 'famous' or infamous street as it was known at that time. Today it's totally different with restuarants springing allover the place and one notable shoping centre is precicely 'Mark & Spencer'.

Thanks for the update zorbua! Straight Street in 1962 was quite an eye opener for a "wet behind the ears" 18 year old like myself!! Part of the "Becoming a Man" ritual for all young service men visiting the island for the first time I guess. :D
