Big difference between 110cm and 120cm?

Hi guys,

I've decided I need a bigger dish as the 78cm that I have right now just doesn't fulfill to my every need. These are the only few needs I do not come to right now.

- Getting occasional feeds, I am aware most of them need a DVB-S2 compatible receiver.
- Better response from Eutelsat W2M, which is currently on overall signal strength of no higher than 60%.

Is 110cm a respectable choice for these needs? It would be nice as 110cm dishes are easy to buy, 120cm especially in the Netherlands is very rare. Would appreciate your help.
 
You should be getting a decent signal from W2M. Out of the three birds currently slotted at 16E W2M and EB16A give decent signals into western Europe, but Sesat 1 has its beam slewed well east and is putting a dreadful signal into western Europe.
 
Thanks for the quick response :) Surprisingly Sesat is not much of a problem with my current dish! The signal is clearly dodgy on facts alone, but the image and sound are sublime, awkwardly enough.

My problem remains TVMI which is on W2M. It is currently out of signal completely and is very on/off during daytime hours. Yet this is one of the most important channels for me. I figure 110cm would improve it majorly anyways, but I just want to make sure.
 
There is an improvement in performance based on size alone (but you already knew that)

However the quality of the dish, installation, and feed match can make more of a difference than the 15% additional gain of a 1.2m.

Don't try to save money going on an unknown make.

Interesting - I currently have absolutely no signal whatsoever for TVMI - its possible theres an intermittent fault at their end of course as I tend not to have any problems with W2M

EDIT - The transponder seems to be powered up but theres nothing on it.
 
So it's not just me... that's perfect to know really as I was wondering what I was doing wrong :P I've mailed them about an hour ago asking what they suggest in the situation, but it could become clear it's a problem with them then :) That said, the other channels I watch via W2M (BNT World, RTCG, Atlas, RTK, RTSH) & Sesat (TVR Regional) never appear to have any problems beside maybe very slight mishaps sometimes before dawn... TVMI is the only one really messing up.

I'll hope to arrange something with them :P Thank you so much for checking.

Just saw this, big thank you for your answer as well :) It makes everything a lot more clear for a sat-numbskull like me hehe :D

I seem to recall they were a bit erratic when they first started as well.

I'd almost say... it's Moldova, so why would I be surprised :P I don't seem to understand why this constantly happens, back in November I remember the signal being sort-of-fine for at least 24 hours :( Oh well let's hope they reply...
