I found one of the - later - desktop ones in a charity shop at the weekend , boxed with manual, complete apart from the battery cover.
It works, the programming command structure is almost identical to the coding my daughter learnt on an Apple app a couple of years ago.
So I did a little digging, and there are a few sites that deal with the taking apart and adapting the original buggy to do stuff the manufacturer didn't have time for.

I fear the internals are a shadow of the original discrete components but the feel is very much the same. I'll take it apart in the next few days to have a better look
