black & white picture on sky+ HD

So why don't Samsung know about that? Pretty shabby.

I agree with Rolf, a letter to trading standards based upon fit for purpose should galvanise Samsung's thinking on this

Something similar occurred with early Pioneer plasma TV's when a Sky HD box was hooked up to them. Neither company wanted to admit an issue with their kit.

No Pioneer are no more, having been swallowed up by Panasonic

Hi PaulR, I really appreciate all the help I'm getting. thanks again, Janet27

Very kind of you. Be sure to keep us informed of what happens - good or bad!

Hi Tivu, I have bought myself a sony kdl40ex703 and a samsung ht-c5500 with the swa-5000 module for wireless speakers, I want to connect them to the sky+ HD box so that I can listen to the tv, as well as dvds, through the speakers. Can you tell me the best way to do this so that I get the best picture and sound.
Many thanks. Janet27

Sadly, Janet, being an impoverished luddite I am not that au fait with the wider aspects of AV systems ............... but I bet there's a fair few folk here you dabble, so hang on just a little while longer and no doubt you'll get some useful replies.

Sorry the original problem was so thorny, but it sounds like it was an opportunity to get loads of new toys, which is always fun!

Hi Janet, I am also like Tivu an impoverished luddite however I do have a new Sony TV, not the same model as yours but no doubt they are all vaguely similar. I do not have a sound surround unit as yet. I assume your problem is the lack of a manual, as this is the problem I had, there is however a good built in manual you can select using the i manual button with the ? on it, this has guides on how and what to connect and should cover the installation of a sound surround system. Or was there a specific point your were struggling with?

Hi Topper, Yes its the lack of a manual thats causing me a problem but I think I'm nearly there but am having problems with the sound through an optical cable and there is supposed to be a menu for the home cinema come up on the screen for settings menu but its not appearing so maybe the home cinema is faulty, just my luck. I'll keep trying though as I'm 90 per cent sure I have my connections right. I'll let you know how it goes.
regards Janet

Yes let us know, the built in manual is actually rather good once you find it and follow it, it has certainly helped me, if I remember correctly the options button allows you to get to some sound settings and home button scroll to settings allows you configure other stuff, good luck

On my (non Sony) TV there's a special digital (not sure if it's co-axial or optical) audio out to connect in to your amplifier so that the sound is delayed by the same amount that the TV slows the video down. If you connect the $ly HD box and/or DVD player directly to the amplifier that'll be fine for radio or audio CDs but you would notice a definite lyp-synch problem otherwise.

Best answer is to have both TV and $ly/DVD going into the amplifier but you may not have enough inputs.

Been to the Samsung web site and there is a manual available for download _http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/tv-audio-video/home-cinema/home-cinema-systems/HT-C5500/XEU/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=support

The same page also has tabs for updates to the firmware and software but I would hold off on those until you've got it up and working.

Hi Everybody, Yay I've done it, all connected up and working superbly. A big thank you to all of you for all the help you have given me.
A very merry Christmas to you all.
thanks, Janet

Well done - a great sense of achievement!
