Blockbuster Movies - how bad?

Having watched four "blockbuster" movies recently I'm sure Hollywood believes special effects is a subsitute for a good plot, script and acting.

To counterbalance this I watched the Boondock Saints again :)

Anyway, which is the worst film (the one I enjoyed the most was the one I thought would be the worst); feel free to post your reasons.
 
Hollywood blockbusters are usually damp squibs anyway.

I watched Tom Cruise in the War of the Worlds remake (2005). The start was good and showed promise. But not as a result of Tom being in it, the story went downhill badly from about 40 minutes in.

Made worse by the fact Stephen Speilburg directed it. He of all people should never had let the rot set in. It was like an afternoon made-for-TV movie.

Must have cost well over 200 million dollars to make. What a waste.
 
I agree about War of The Worlds, the storyline was ridiculously narrow, focussing on a troubled family and made worse by the two whining, badly behaved, self centred kids, totally spoiled it for me.

Could have been brilliant.
 
Im afraid that Tom Cruise is a definite disincentive to view anything as far as I'm concerned. I really can't understand why he's so popular.
 
I am probably too old but I cannot get into any of those Harry Potter films. That said, I do still watch fantasy films...on the Fantasy Channel. :D

Nah, I am joking. Sorry to lower the tone. :D
 
I recently went to see g-force, about secret agents who are guinea pigs.

Nearly £50 for four of us (you pay extra cos its in 3d) and it was the biggest pile o shite i have seen in a long time.

No wonder torrent are so popular.

Went to see public enemies that was great, i came out wanting a machine gun!

Also stephen graham is a geat actor and looks like he might have a future in hollywood.
 
Haven't seen G Force (or even heard about it to see what it's all about) I can't offer my opinion except to say you're probably right!

However...

As this thread has been reactivated I would like to pour some well deserved scorn upon a film that I HAVE seen which disappointed me no end - Star Trek XI.

Firstly can I say shaky camerawork - AAAAAARGHHH!

As a life-long Trekkie and follower of Lost and, previously, Alias, I was keenly anticipating this reboot of the series. I tried to be positive about it - I really did but it was just too different.

The characterisation seemed forced and, quite often, arbitrary. Character re-introductions signalled with heavy lack of sublety and a woeful disregard of science, or even SciFi pseudo science. I mean, parachuting into a planet's atmosphere from space and NOT burning up on entry? I squirmed in my seat.

J J Abrams' reboot of the series has kicked it completely into touch as far as I'm concerned, I won't be going to another one.

It also makes me extremely concerned about the outcome of Lost as I am now very worried that, after all the time I have invested, it's going to let me down badly.
 
You didn't think Lost was going to let you down ??????

Anyway, back on topic, Evil Aliens. I expected a lot when I went into the cinema and by the end was looking for a fire escape to jump off.
