Hello there,

I tried and tried, but there is no way I can install anything on my DM500 (gemini 2.90) using the blue button.

The DM is connected to an ethernet card at the back of my PC using a crossover cable.
The PC is connected to an ADSL router via Wifi.

The PC IP addresses are 192.168.254.2 for the router connection
and 192.168.0.1 for the DM connection (the subnet is in both cases 255.255.255.0)
The DM address is 192.168.0.99 (NOT using DHCP)
Using DHCP makes no difference at all.

I can ping the DM and get a response
The DM can ping the internet (though telnet) and get a response
I installed images using ethernet without problem.
Firewall on PC lets all traffic all ports from 192.168.0.99 go through
Turning off the firewall makes no difference at all.

BUT THIS DAMN BLUE BUTTON OPENS UP AN ERROR PAGE (very quickly, in fact too quickly for me to read it), and then a blank "download" window where nothing happens.

I saw a similar post here:
http://www.satellites.co.uk/php-bin/forum/archive/index.php/t-46718.html
but this did not solve anything.

Anyone can help, please ?

what is the GATEWAY IP address on the Dreambox?
it should be the PC IP address.

I assume you have ICS enabled on that 2nd LAN adaptor? Sounds like it if your telnet can ping an internet address (try ping www.cnn.com for example...?)

thanks for your reply

gateway address on DM is 192.168.0.1 (PC's ethernet card IP address)
The wifi connection to the router is shared on the PC.

My question is then:
How come I can ping but not retrieve pages?
Perhaps the image is outdated and points to non-existent pages, in this case, what do I need to change to make it work?

Plugging the DM straight into the router (using normal not x-over cable) and enabling DHCP on it make the DM take the router's address as gateway, I can connect and ping all the same, but still no luck with the blue button.

ping www.msn.com uses DNS whereas ping 192.0.0.1 doesn't.

Can you ping an www address? Can you connect your Dreambox to your router using a regular CAT5 cable rather than using the PC as a gateway?

if nothing's helping then I'd do flash-erase then program (and word on the street is preferring Gemini 2.40 btw)

if that's a pain, I'd dump the files for what you want into /tmp after downloading tarballs from IHAD - often you'll get *newer* files that way too ;)

Thanks for the hints.

SOLUTION IS AS FOLLOWS:

Don't use Gemini 2.9 OR 2.8 - the blue button does not work for me in these 'O'-red
Instead, use Gemini 2.40 which is more stable, and then download at your heart's content O-Ha

I wished I knew that earlier, it would have saved me flashing the DM twice with the serial cable (first time the image was 0 bytes (dont ask why :confused), and the second time because I flashed a .rar file :-rofl2).

Which feature on the blue button doesn't work for you?

It works for me: DM500 and Gemini 2.90. But my Dreambox is connected to a router not a PC.

Blue button has worked faultless for me on 2.8 and 2.9 so your sweeping statement is incorrect - but you have had a funky problem :)

No sweeping that sir ;).

All the same I got it working in the end, that's what counts, but I would have liked to know WHY exactly. I guess it's a Jeep thing ! (oops a Dreambox thing :D ).

Thanks for your help.

I challenge you to render your DB incapable of booting completely and needing your assistance "ER style" ;)

Well flashing a 0 byte file and a .rar file was a good start.
Why on earth did it accept to flash these files?

Next I will flash it with a PSP firmware 2.70 and see what it does...:-doh!

 K
