I didn't know where to put this as there is no BluRay section, so if it is the wrong place can the admins please move it.
Refer to the following link for a complete guide. Tested it and it works to backup to a normal DVD-R and to BluRay-R. Compression does not seem to affect the picture quality too much, even onto a DVD-R. It lists all the tools needed and a step by step guide. You have to be patient as it takes a long time (2 - 24 hours depending on machine speed and whether you make a full backup or just the movie bit).
