As I had to work at 4am today, I took the afternoon off. Not feeling very tired, I got quickly bored and ran out of things to do.

So, I came across this. I've seen these kinds of creations before but never really thought it would actually work. Surely, you need a nice smooth surface of the reflector to collect the signals in one spot?

Inspired by the video, I decided to try it. Here is there result!


Yep, holding an old Technomate LNB in front of a frying pan lid, measuring about 25cm across, I easily locked a UK spot beam transponder on 28.2E. If I was really careful, I could get up to 10dB! I didn't try it but I wonder if I would have received anything with just pointing the LNB up at the satellite...

Perhaps an idea for Analoguesat, in case he runs out of dishes to salvage?
 
Try it with a Chinese Wok, the big ones work wonders.

If you really want some fun, line a South or South West facing wall with some aluminum foil and see what you can pick up off the bounce. (mount the LNB on a dish first)
 
I've bounced signals off a painted concrete wall back in the analogue days. At first I thought I was picking up a new satellite until I realised what was going on. Picture was full of sparklies but you could make out what channels they where.
 
SWMBO has forbidden me from borrowing her wok.

I've heard you should have no problem getting 'feeds' with that setup.
;)
 
The neighbours already think Im bonkers - if I start waving a wok around with a tv in the garden it will confirm it :-lmao
