Hi all

This is probably an extremely stupid question but do you ever think we will see the likes of Dave and Bravo on Freesat?

Thanks
Kyle

No.

Virgin Media have just signed a new transmission agreement with sky which puts the VM channel (including Bravo) on Sky until June 2011.

Any encrypted channel has to do some serious sums. They get a few pennies per subscriber per month from sky. So lets say they get 5p per customer (the exact number doesnt matter) Sky has 9 million subscribers therefore Bravo brings in UKP450,000 per month.

Therfore to make it worthwhile going fta they have to get an additional amount of advertising equal to the loss of subscription. In a recession its just not going to happen.

Also due to the programme rights problem many of the channels that might want to go fta would need to go onto Astra 2D and theres just not the capacity avilable.
