One of the most frightening experiences I ever had was checking for dead chickens in a hen house containing 2000 chickens. They peck your legs and draw blood and I saw many a chicken with the top half of it's skull exposed after having been pecked by other chickens, it's brain pulsating with every heart beat. They usually only lasted a day or two, having been thus brutalised
