Switched the telly on this am for a gawk at Susannah Reid and discovered that "Breakfast" had been replaced by a simple, straightforward, professional News Programme.

Took me a while to realise this was due to a Journalists' strike.

The trend of slimmed down, yet more effective, coverage continued all day and we even had a Regional Bulletin tonight with no bells and whistles.

I was so impressed that I have sent feedback to Auntie congratulating them on the massive improvements.

I tend to agree, sick to death of magazine style news programmes.

It seems we were by no means alone in noticing the vast improvement: yesterday's Telegraph had an article saying that many people had expressed delight and pleasure at actually having no-nonsense News progs.

Some of these Journos may just have shot themselves and their cause in both feet.

And for supposedly articulate and intelligent pros, their picket-line chanting was more akin to an old folk's home:

"What Do We Want? Why Are We Here? Dunno, I've Forgotten Already"
