Hi, i'm in North West Bulgaria and can receive reception from 19.2 on Analogue, using a 80cm dish .3db universal LNB and a metronic analogue receiver that i bought in France....
Some channels are excellent quality, MTV Germany for example, CNN international is very reasonable, but Eurosport is only just visible..
so my question is, is it as simple as buying a bigger dish to get an excellent picture on eurosport and on comedy central ? and if so, how much bigger should i buy ?

Also, there are digital channels available on 19.2, should my existing dish be capable of receiving them or would the signals be harder to capture ?

Whilst in france i bought the analogue kit as a cheap way to get a dish and lnb to watch sky on an old Amstrad DX200, i still have this box, is it fit for anything other than a doorstop ? i don't intent fitting a 2.5 meter dish to receive sky but would like to watch some of the free to air channels from bulsat and itv, and or anything else that may be interesting or english channels...

IF the lnb is universal then yes the digital receiver will work fine with the dish. There are around 120 digital channels available in the clear on 19E!

There is no way whatsoever to watch Sky UK in analogue - the final SUK signals were switched off in late 2001!

I realise that there is no longer analogue uk sky, I had previously used the digibox with this dish when i lived in france,(receiving UK Sky Digital) however now i'm in bulgaria i found there is no reception,(without massive dish) and wanting to watch something uk language i searched out the strongest signal and tried that, the digibox won't show anything, no signal quality but the analogue shows good picture... turns out that was 19E

Is it safe to assume the digibox is deceased if it won't show channels whilst the analogue box does ? that was one question..

Dish size, how much bigger would be needed for clear viewing of Eurosport, (analogue) bearing in mind its just visible through the mist now, on 80cm dish, and MTV is crystal clear. i know its a guess
 
Step up to 1m and that should clear your analogue picture. :)

If i up to 1 meter, should i also have digital reception ? and should that be on the DRX200 ?
 
The dish will have to be aligned onto 28E of course. Its not going to do anything with the dish pointing at 19E.

My previous comment may be misleading - I misread the model type, and assumed the Amstrad 200 was an old analogue box. Ive deleted the comment about it as its just going to cause confusion to everyone (including me!)

The 1m dish should give you Eurosport in analogue at decent signal strength as rolf says.

It wont give you all the UK channels - if you want the BBC & ITV channels and all the stuff on Astra 2D you are going to have to invest in somehing a LOT bigger. 3.5m should do nicely!

I suspect i've not made myself very clear.... i realise that a massive dish is needed to receive UK Sky digital.. and i don't want it.

Should my digibox receive other digital transmissions ? (other than sky)

Other than 19 E analogue and digital, there are digital services provided by ITV Partner at 16 E and Bulsat at 39 E, should the Digi box pick up there clear channels ? (subject to allignment of course)
Only i haven't managed to....which is why i asked if the clear analogue signal should also mean clear digital ?
 
Actually a huge dish isnt needed to watch some stuff off Sky digital at 28E! - there are around 8 footprints in use on the various satellites, some spectacularly weak in eastern europe, some reasonably strong.

Whilst a sky digibox can be used away from 28E its not really recommended. For starters

- it can only be used on fta channels
- only symbol rates of 22000 & 27500 are supported
- you have to add channels (services 4 4)
- then watch them through (services 6)
- you have to use services 6 every single time you want to change channel
- you are limited to 50 channels maximum.
 
OK, so doorstop it is as i first suggested..

In an ideal world, i would like to watch my good quality analogue, so upgrade to a 1 metre dish, and also anything digital and clear from 19E...so Buy digital receiver..

Also i would like to watch channels from 13 and 16 E, ideally also 39E though that would be a bonus, what should i do?
Would a fixed dish with multiple LNBs do the trick, or should i go motorized ?

probably off topic here, but i am in north east bulgaria, have a humax (forgot the model but used it for motorised system in uk) and suk digibox with card, i have just bought a 2.4m petalised dish from canada and an inverter dual lnb, what could i hope to catch?
is it possible to pick up astra and hotbird with another lnb without moving the dish?
sorry if these have been answered before, i did search!!
 
From your post you seem to have a working system set up for Sky UK 28E yes?

If you want to watch Astra 1 & Hotbird you are either going to have to move the dish or set up additional lnb. You might be better picking up a cheap additional dish and setting that up for 19E or 13E.
 
For 19.2E in NE Bulgaria i would recommend a high quality solid 1.80m dish for the weaker 1G/H. 13E is ok on 80cm, so it depends on your dish how much gain it has in 9° offset position since this would be the distance of your 19.2E LNB from the 28.2E in the center position. Here you have to try yourself. No exact answer can be given if the results would be good enough.
