Hi all
I am looking to buy two LCD tv's. One 37inch and the other 15-19 inch . Is there any make which I should avoid like the plague? Is there any make of LCD tv which is superior to the rest which you could recommend?

Someone at work has recommended a Novatech 37" LCD HDTV ATSC / DVB-T, Does anyone know anything about this television? The website looks impressive.

Regards and cheers for now:-thumb1

Check how HD the HD is. There are 2 standards 720p and 1080i. Cheaper HD sets downconvert 1080i signals to 720, more expensive ones will display the signal in full definition.

Everything I have had made by Philips has lasted about 2 years and then developed serious faults. Maybe I am just unlucky but I wont be touching their brand again.

Then again, Ive had a cheap Argos Bush 14" telly in the bedroom for 10 years and its never given me an inkling of trouble so dont just go by the brand name!

LG are reputed to have put the most cash and time into their HD development.

Go for an LCD with 1080p not 1080i;)
Just google 1080p for details

1080p?

What would you show on it? AFAIK there are only a few games that can give this signal. Admittedly it will always be able to show 1080i stuff but it would be a lot of extra money to no real benefit.

I woud wait until far more sources were available before going for 1080p.

Hi DR45..

Its a choice between a 1280x720 (720p) Display, or a 1920x1080 (1080i &1080p) display.
All Resolutoins in between have to scale either of the signals.
Most European Broadcasters are pushing the 1080i signal.
Most of Us with older LCD Displays (Around the 1280x720 Mark) are hoping we will have more 720p Transmissions in the future the Reason is,
A 720p signal on a LCD with a Native Resolution of 1280x720 No scaling will occur.

A 1080i signal on a LCD with a Native Resolution of 1280x720 the signal will be
De-Interlaced then downscaled from 1920x1080 to 1280x720.

Now a 1920x1080 LCD Display will deal with a 1080i Signal like this,
It will De-interlace and No scaling will ocur.
99% of All LCD are progessive scan.

Now a 720p signal on a LCD with a Native Resolutin of 1920x1080 will be upscaled from
1280x720 to 1920x1080.

As Paulr said No 1080p signal will be transmitted for at least 5 to 10yrs in Europe,
but a 1920x1080 display with 1080p will handle the new PS3 and Blu Ray HD DVD player.
