Dear Friends,

Please advice which would be a good digital receiver to suit the following requirements:

1. With Card Reader for receiving Showtime / Firstnet
2. To receive Hotbird / Astra Channels
3. Easy upgrade for Receiver Software / Firmware (Satellites Forum is great help)
4. Not very expensive - middle range in pricing (around $135)

Thanks

If I were you I would get a Technomate TM-1500CI+ receiver which costs about £100-130, all depends where you look.
It has a CI slot and a "smart card reader" (see the_wizzz review on this receiver in a section cunning called "Receiver Reviews") is very user friendly and as a big plus it can also be patched.
You say a middle range of about $135, I would say for that money you will get a very low range receiver.
It can be upgraded quite easily by connecting to your PC with a null-modem cable (£5), and all receivers will pick up Hotbird & Astra as well as many more.

Happy hunting
Rob
