Physics. It is not (at the moment....)possible to provide a decent level of signal across a bandwidth wider than the general parameter of the band being received. The fixed dimension of the feed and the first components in the detector circuit will always be a compromise. We are waiting a new generation of front ends that can be adjusted both electrically and mechanically to tune more efficiently at a wider range of frequencies.
