There is a 10m dish at the top of our village - probably a mile away - any way to use it??

Using Fibre, yes but not really practical.

thought it might be too far - it is BIG though! (no idea where its pointing or lnb or even who owns it)

pmsl, youll probably find out within a short space of time when you try to align it to another sat!

pictures of dish - sorry about the sun!

Ah, so that's what the Sun looks like.

If it's all downhill from there you could roll it.

No it is not too far, the datasheet from global Invacom states that the LNB will work to up to 10km of fibre. But yes, I would have thought it impractical to find a way of actually running the cable over a mile.

I do like the dish though, almost un-noticeable, LOL

hello
nice dish
it depends on what you are trying to receive.
there are a few problems
find out who's dish and if they let you use it.
have it aligned on the sat you want to receive
run 1 km of fiber on phone poles that don't belong to you
probably others want to tap in as well
there is a lot to consider

The dish itself is more than likely used for the block of apartment seen in the photo and if you asked the correct people im sure they would let you use it by installing another lnb and fibre. Are you living there 365 if so it would be well worth a small fee every year. The major problems are running the fibre with the H & s aspects and off course where the dish is actully pointing atm have you used dishpointer to see where you think ortherwise you could take a photo at 12 o clock from both the front and the back and we could work out what it is pointing at.

Yep - I thought it would look good on my roof - no one would notice it!
