Another daft question... now that I have played about with my new system!

Is there any advantage in getting a CAM unit/card - what channels would this add to my existing set up, if any?

Running Fortec HD receiver connected to old $ky dish.

Many thanks for all the help you guys have already given me!

Kyle

Depends what satellite you point the dish at, nothing to be gained on Astra 28.2, but something like a TRex CAM would give you some bits and pieces from Astra 19.2 and Hotbird. Might be an idea to put your new system in your profile.

Hopefully come early next year there will be some HD channels on 28.2, plus Channel 4 should be Free To Air.

If I get TRex, I can then put various cards in? Is there anything worthwhile this would add?

If Channel 4 goes HD FTA, do we think that normal Channel 4 may show up as well then?

Well Channel 4 will be part of the BBC Freesat package, so should be free to air along with all of the other 4 channels. :)

The only card which will do anything on Astra 28.2 would be a Sky Digital card, you may want to consider going for a multi LNB set up, on say a 90cm dish, then the possibilities would open up. CAMs like the TRex are programmable, so don't require cards for some packages.

a really REALLY stupid question?

If I change my Sky card to a free one for the 25 quid, can I put it in a suitable CAM (if so, which one?!) and have more channels again? (obviously not the Sky ones)

I am sure that's a really daft question!

A Sky Free To View card will get you exactly that, the Free To View channels, soon only to be Five and Sky 3, if you cancelled your subscription, that card would then become a FTV card.

The TRex CAM does not keep the Sky card alive, although there appear to be a couple of CAMs which may now do that, then yes you could use the card fro the FTV channels aon Astra 2 and the CAM for other channels on other satellites.

When Freesat starts , Five will be missing as it's tied to Sky for at least another year.

So what I do need to buy? Sorry for being newbie!

Would Bravo appear?

It's not just a question of 'more' channels really. What do you want to look at.... what's your interest. I've got hundreds of channels and the majority I don't look at because they don't interest me. The interest is in the hobby of being able to pick them up.

You are a bit limited by your setup so, initially, think about what you would like to pick up.

Bravo Uk and Bravo2 are part of the Sky digital package.

If you take a spin round this site http://en.kingofsat.net/ then you can see what's where.

sorry to butt in but i have a fortec passion with a diablo....could i also have a differnt cam in aswell as the diablo..would it benifit me.....cas3 progger

Not advisable, particularly if you are considering a Dragon/TRex cam, as this is known to conflict with the Diablo in the Passion, and some other receivers too.

The Dragon/TRex works fine though as a single cam in the Passion.

My advice is to stay with what you have.
