Cams and cards basics?

Hello everyone. I'm about to embark on getting a motorised satellite system.
Ive been looking on ebay and other internet shops and they offer loads of different packages.

Can anyone tell me what a cam does and why so many different ones. I want to receive art sport and i've seen a card for £69.99. Do i need a cam for this?

Confused I will be so no tech blurb please
 
Hello,

May I suggest a small investment in a FTA (Free To Air) system. You may find some sold as a package with a motor. I would also suggest obtaining a receiver which understands the USALS standard, which will take the 'migraine' out of the initial alignment and re-positioning of your dish, in order to access neighbouring satellites.

Can't help you with 'cams', yet to study up on these. However, what I've outlined exactly describes my entrance into the field of 'TV Satellite Coummunications', and I've yet to be disappointed with what's available as FTA,coupled with a motorised dish.

Incidentally, you may be aware that Eurosport and Extreme Sports are both freely available on 28.2E and 19.2E, respectively.

I already have sky digital but have become really dissollusioned about there pricing policies.
Thats one reason for the motorised sat system. I pay for what I want not what I'm told I can have. I started with the old analouge astra system leaning out of the bedroom window adjusting the dish and seeing what was out there..I know it was primitive but I was getting hotbird with no problem.
 
Technomate 1500CI. No cam or card needed. Just install latest patch from net. Read up on it, it is a great reciever. It has an internal Omnikrypt cam which is all singing and dancing. For about £120, the best piece of kit I've bought. Oh an M2 card might be worth having. As for dish go for a 1.2mt. I bought a ! mt. and now will have to upgrade my motor as well if I want to put a 1.2 mt. dish on. So decide what size dish and get a motor which suppports USALS and disc 1.2 Good luck
 
Be very carfull what you by at the moment. Most if not all webb sites with updates for recivers, cam's and cards went of the nett yesterday due to police raids for using copyright material.
At this stage no one knows when they will be back. so only way to watch may be with official card.
 
HI To watch ART sport In order to receive Arabesque you will need: 1. A 60cm satellite dish pointing to Hot-Bird. 2. A satellite receiver with Viaccess 2 embedded or a common interface(C.I) slot and a viaccess cam with ART card. if you check out www.knplogic.co.uk
 
Thanks for everyones advise. Especially to Fruny because I decided to buy the Technomate tm 1500ci+.When it arrives I'll let everyone know how it goes..
 
the x-cam is also compatible with the art sport card,and is also good for programming sky,d+,tps as well.
