Can a Dish be too large

I am about to install a dish in san javier Spain, I have spoken to a local wholesaler who has tols me that I only need 1.9m dish for sky. He says that a 2.4 is to large for my area and could swamp the recievier with to stronger signal.
Is this true ? :confused:

Looks like it is easier for him to install a smaller dish than 2.4m.
If you can put a large dish without any objections from neighbours and the cost is not too hard on the pocket, then it would be better.
The receiver should be able to handle it.
 
thank you for the help, could you also recomend the best decoder to use for frindge coverage. I don't need HD but would like to be able to get sky and freeview, I also want to be able to move my sky card between home and spain so I don't have to subscribe twice?
 
a pace 2600 or ds430n are good receivers for fringe reception

should be a few on that auction site

It is more than possible that he meant lnb and not receiver. This does happen.

Check that a good quality lnb will be used.

A lot of people are using the DarkBox for this reason. The card doesn't need to be married up to the box which means you or whoever you are renting to can bring your/their card on holiday and all your subscribed channels will still work.
 
The dream box receivers will also do this. But there is a card change in the wind so all this may change!

What makes you think a card change is coming?
I think at present whilst secure they wouldn´t go to the expense.
If they are quoting 8.3 million subscribers (possibly plus multiroom cards), then assume each card costs 50p each (its a guess but even when you are buying so many then they can´t be much less) plus 25 odd pence postage plus man hours dealing with getting them out then that's a boat load of money out of anyone's pocket.
It´s only my view but who knows!

I read somewhere regarding a card change at some point.
 
It has been widely mooted that Card changes will commence this coming April.

There is some "evidence" apparently, but as far as I can see it still has the status of an unconfirmed rumour (albeit with some merit).

Certainly, Sky haven't announced such a thing - but then again they didn't bother announcing that an awful lot of people would think their box had gone faulty when the "Auto Standby" Firmware was released in recent weeks!
