Can i Motorise my 1.2mtr dish

My Satellite Setup
90cm Fortec Star Dish
1.2mtr Channelmaster Dish
Manhattan Plaza 3300 Receiver
My Location
Neath, South Wales. UK
I have had my Channel Master 1.2mtr satellite dish for 2 years now and while im delighted with it i am getting tired of moving it every time i want to change satellites. The dish is on a metal stand with the dish slotting on to the stand. I was wondering is there a way of motorising the dish and if so what would i need to motorise it in total. I know some people use an acutator but i know nothing about how these work. Any advice or informartion would be greatly appreciated.
 
You need to get yourself a polar mount and actuator.

The polar mount, by itself enables the dish to be swung around the arc, the actuator provides pulling or pushing to enable it to be done automatically via a 36V capable receiver or via a V-box controlled by diseqc 1.2.



I believe that the odd crazy person has managed to get a cm1.2, working on a diseqc 1.2/usals motor, but thats pushing it some, and more.
 
Thank you for your reply, hope i dont sound silly but firstly where would i get a polar mount, what size actuator would i need and also where would you get a v box although im sure one of my two receivers may well be capable of doing it automatically. is it just satellite cable going from receiver to dish or is there a power cable too. sorry for so many questions.
 
The size of actuator will depend on the arc you want, four core cable for motor, two for power, two for the reed switch. I'm pretty sure our forum advertisers will sell v-Boxes.

There are polar mounts around, quite expensive though, having said that, if you have an original AZEL mount, they go for good money as well.
 
The polar mounts for the channel master are tricky to come by, though you may find one by googling, some have been known to get one constructed for themselves. Another option may be a 36v H-H motor, got to be better than a diseqc H-H.


Yes 36V motors/actuators need a separate cable to suppply the the +- 36V, and to receive the sense signals.
 
satsuperstore sell a polar mount for the cm 1.2m dish but its very expensive and also do a 36volt h2h motor Moteck H180 but I dont know how good it is. I use a jaeger smr 1224 motor to move mine but these are discontinued.

It may be worthwhile contacting some of the forum sponsors about one (if you want to go with a H2H). Obviously you wouldn't need a polar mount if you used a H2H like this, but I'm not sure if it just bolts straight onto the dish.

it comes with an adapter plate which fits cm dishes. I would see about getting a polar mount made up if you know anyone that has a metal machine shop. Plenty of reference pictures around I would think.
