Apologies if this has been asked a million times, but I've done a quick search and can't find the definitive anwser to my specific question...

I have a sky contract.
I have a sky digibox.
I have a sky viewing card.

I do not have a dish and am living in a caravan for a few months.

Can I buy any satellite dish/lnb on the high street and connect this to my digibox to recieve sky as normal? (With the dish pointing in the right direction of course)

I was looking in Maplin Electronics at _http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=48737&doy=4m8#overview one of these kits, or _http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?TabID=1&ModuleNo=47161&doy=4m8 one of these (plus LNB)

Oh, SKY put me on hold for 30 mins with no answer and the guy in Maplins didn't know!

Thanks in advance,

Dom :)

"Oh, SKY put me on hold for 30 mins with no answer and the guy in Maplins didn't know!" .... that doesnt surpise me....however dont tell sky u are planning on using your receiver in a caravan....they wont like that

the answer regarding the question of those dishes is YES. However they are quite expensive.

Try eb@y for a cheap sky dish. You can also get foldy tripods to mount your dish

If you are caravaning in england and wales....u can pick up a sky mini dish for about a tenner.

take a look at the this:- ebay 330152228872

Either will do, the kit in the box is easier to set up but is a little small- you may lose channels in heavy rain. The larger dish is the right size but trickier to fit to a caravan.
You could get a 55cm Raven dish ( as used by Sky) on eBay for less. You could mount this to a pole driven into the ground, secure it with 'U' bolts.

I have one of the portable kits myself hooked up to a sky box, and when properly aligned they work pretty well, only really heavy rain stops it working... :)

Thank you 2cvbloke

I think I will get down to Maplins at 11am tomorrow (when they open) and hopefully by 11.30 I can be watching the World Superbikes!

Woo hoo!
