A customer not far from here has given up on their SkyQ equipment after they have been let down five times by the installation team coming out to fix issues.

They are just inside their contract but will cancel on the day it expires.

Will the SkyQ box allow them to view Free To Air stuff once the contract is up or does it become a doorstop ? They have no real interest in the recordings on the drive.

Thanks in advance

It has to be returned to Sky. They will get hit with a none return fee if they dont send it back.

They rent, not own, the box, and so it will have to be returned to/collected by SKY when their contract expires.

A bit of a catch22, since they had arranged for the system to be sorted, being let down four times before I was on site this afternoon. If Sky had turned up today they would have handed the box over.

Looks like I will be installing a quad LNB this weekend then (they have a satellite enabled TV in both rooms)

Well when I cancelled my sky q 2tb box all the FTA stuff still worked they sent a box to return it I did not they billed me around £300 for it not long after

tell them to collect it, they won't bother

And if they do bother to try, be out 4 times.

The Q boxes are not like the older boxes, Sky will not forget about them.

Thats very correct I thought they would forget about mine but about a month after them sending me returns packaging I was billed for it

Loads of Q boxes on eBay, new and used.

Had a look and that's very true, and I wonder why people are selling them - some claimed to have never been used!

Then again, I also wonder if anyone who buys one of those can actually get Sky to authorise it to be used at any less cost than taking out a new contract for themselves (under which they would have got the box/boxes anyway!)?

OTOH, to what other uses could anyone put such boxes if SKY won't authorise them?

PS: could the answer to the last question be "To put back on ebay sell to some other unsuspecting mug at an even higher price?"o_O

Really they are stolen as they remain the property of sky they only become yours after you get billed for non return a they are no use only for fta tv but you can not record them, With the 1tb and 2tb boxes I had I found the video quality inferior to the build in tuner on my lg tv putting it in bbc hd and going between the two was a big difference

I was billed for a faulty Q box when I failed to return it, manage to get it sorted in the end.
