Cant get 28.2... But can get 19.2, 13E

I'm struggling to find 28.2E. I can get an excellent signal on 19.2E or Hotbird 13E but nothing on 28.2.

Am I right in assuming that once i found 19.2E, i just need to move the dish an inch or 2 left? Do i need to change the elevation? I imagine I would as the satellite will be lower but thought I'd be able to find 28.2 first on the same elevation as 19.2 and then adjust the elvation to improve signal.

My property is close to some trees which I thought may interfere with the signal as they arein the same direction but 19.2 is very strong and the trees are about 30metres.

I just cant work out what I'm doing wrong!

Any help would be appreciated
 
Left depends where you're looking from ............... certainly if looking from Dish towards LNB, you are correct.

I tend to give advice as if looking from LNB towards Dish, 'cos it seems more practical to me. Then I am left handed!

And yes - the elevation should be a couple of degrees lower. If you don't alter it, you'll overshoot the Satellites at 28E by quite a long way: they are 24,000 miles away, so even without doing the trigonometry, you can imagine the margin you'll miss by!

Don't forget to optimise LNB Skew - but a shortfall in this aspect shouldn't stop you from finding the Satellite.
 
Hi, you need to drop the elevation of the dish a tad for 28e from the 19e slot. Also apply more skew to the LNb once found to maximise signal.
 
Well I've been trying to find 28.2 all day with no success

It must be the trees... Just weird cause 19.2 is so strong and the trees I think that are in the way are in the same line of sight as 19.2. I tried to use dishpointer and got a satellite but when i used my SL65 if turned out to be 19.2 again.

That's a shame - not an uncommon problem, unfortunately.

Is there any other possible location for mounting your dish where the line of sight might be clear?

Well i tried quite a few places using a meter and no luck. But I was trying it at ground level, may try again but at a litle height.

I will try and get some photos. I originally was going to install it so it was over the roof but when I went to install it this morning i found the t k brackets wont clear the guttering. Then i was playing with the meter and was quite happy when I found a satellite as where I was working was an ideal place to install my dish. Thought maybe someone was looking down on me, but obviously not...

Its my first satellite dish I've installed so I have no idea what will block the line of sight.

Trees and buildings will, they must be avoided. In fact, don't have anything in the way, and it will work.

Try a homemade inclinometer or get a Wixey angle gauge, then you will know for sure what you have.
