Can't get a signal in Wales

Please can anyone help. We have tested everything with our freesat set up but still cannot receive a signal. Our 60cm dish is aligned correctly according to the signal meter but we cannot get a signal stronger than 8. We have a humax receiver and a sky ocoto lnbf. We have switched receivers, lnbs, checked all the cables and after 3 days are about to throw the lot away. Is our location a problem?

Welcome to the forum SAST

If you are going to throw it then do it in my direction.:)

Seriously, if you have never done this before you need to have patience, it is no good spending 3 days playing if you have not used any of the dish setup guides on the forum, why not upload a picture of your dish and lnb from the side showing the angles of everything. Do you have line of site to the sat, are you able to compare it to a nearby dish?

Welcome to sats uk SAST,

It's possible your not aligned correctly to the 28E slot. You may have stumbled across one of the close high powered satellites, an easy mistake to make using a simple in line meter.

Thanks for the welcome. We have aligned the dish according to the dishfinder website which uses google earth to show the correct alignment and believe me we have not been playing but trying to work through a process of elimination. All of our neighbours have dishes (installed by sky) and they are all pointing in a similar direction]

Similar direction isnt good enough - you need to be aligned to within half a degree horizontal and vertical before you pick anything up!

Disconnect the Humax from the mains and plug back in once you have made a cup of tea.

I have had a few Freesat boxes of theirs fail out of the box, you may also be one of the unlucky ones.

If your convinced you have the dish aligned on 28e, borrow a friend or neighbours skybox, it should fire up and work at the off if dish is ok. Process of elimination although.. I would say from your description, your not on the correct satellite.

Thanks for all the replies. If we are not pointing the dish in the right direction and the satellite meter is not refined enough, how can we fine tune it?
We have tried a different receiver but to no effect.

if you are convnced that you have found A satellite, it would be useful to find out which one it is.

The Humax I believe can be used in FTA mode, a scan with that should give channels.

Cross reference the channels you get on kingofsat channel search. You'll then know which way you have to tweak the dish.

What is the other receiver?, that may be more useful.
