Can't get ITV on Freeview!

Hope someone has some help. I went round to my Nans as her Freeview was on the blink! As soon as all the old ladies heard a guy was in the place who knew something about tellys I had myself several Granny's Freeview boxes to fix! No kidding!

Anyway, manged to sort out my nans. Then went to elsewhere. Its a Panasonic Freeview box. Plugged it in, they all use the same aerial on the roof. Did a scan, first of free services, but no ITV channels came up. Then did a scan of all services just in case, and still the same. I then did a restore hardware to basic settings thing and tried again, but still no joy. Tried resetting the box, but nothing. Also the picture on some of the channels is terrible, blocky and all sorts.

As its the same aerial as my nans, I can understand it. This box seems quite good. Any thoughts? I was thinking maybe a signal booster? Have no clue really.
 
ITV stuck to 64quam transmission format which isnt so resilient as the 16quam the bbc used when they took over dtt transmissions.

If you are getting different results in different flats using the same aerial on the roof, then its either cable damageor down to the different receivers.
 
Yeah, I am pretty certain its the same communual aerial on the roof. Would an indorr aerial ever have the capability of picking up freeview, but then again, if this receiver cant even find ITV from a roof top aerial. It finds every other channel. Strange. I might have a singal booster lying about the place, could give that a go.
 
The signal booster is highly unlikely to have a beneficial effect but if you have one, why not?

The problem, as Analoguesat has already said, is likely to be a combination of the old aerial installation and the weaker 64qam signals. Incidentally as it's a communal system there will already be a signal distributor/amplifier, probably in the attic somewhere.

The signal quality and strength in a multipoint system will often depend on how long the cable run is from the head end, sometimes a little set back amp will make a difference and lift the signal above the receiver threshold, but it is suck it and see. You could always ask the administrator to ask the contractor if they can tweak the power up a little

Make sure that the freeview box is the first connection to the aerial, not after the video.

As Analoguesat says, the 64QAM signals are nowhere near as robust in fringe areas and some receivers handle them better than others.
