Cant Receive 26E

My Satellite Setup
90cm Fortec Star Dish
1.2mtr Channelmaster Dish
Manhattan Plaza 3300 Receiver
My Location
Neath, South Wales. UK
I have a 1.2 meter satellite dish which is currently pointing at 13E, i have also got a 90cm dish pointing at 19.2E. I was hoping to pick up the Argentina football game tonight which is shown free to air on AL jazeera sport 1 on 26e and 7w
Ive been told that 7w on a 1.2 mtr dish in Wales is difficult to pick up so i opted to try for 26e
Unfortunately using a £15 maplin satellite finder i cannot seem to receive any signal from 26e.
Could this be because of the dish size, could it be my receiver or could it be the lnb, do i have to turn the lnb because 26e is so close to 28.2e. I receive 28.2e very strong in the late 90s but i am frustrated at not being able to pick up nothing at 26e after 4 hours of trying. If 26e is difficult to receive in the uk then i would feel better but looking at the footprints on kingofsat if i read it right a 90 cm dish would be big enough in the uk. Any advise or help would be appreciated.

1.2m should be just about ok.

The problem is not so much the available strength, but the fact that 28E is much stronger and is relatively close in Azimuth (Same applies to some of the Transponders on 23.5E).

If you are using DisEqC or USALS positioning then instead of locating BADR at 26E, change it's nominal position to around 25.4 degrees.

That should give you a bit of discrimination and prevent swamping from 28E.

Edit: I note you mention Satellite Finder, so now assume you are doing a manual alignment - in which case you should be ok if you take great care.

As I don't Post there, let me answer your point about Skew.

BADR is round about -21 deg Skew for a manual aligned Dish, which in practical terms means that whilst looking from the LNB towards the Dish you should turn it 21 deg clockwise or until its pointing to somewhere in the vicinity of the two o'clock position.

If you had it set right for 28E then the Skew is, to all intents and purposes, fairly similar (There is a slight "fudge" with 28E as the Satellites have a degree of inbuilt Skew pre-correction, but that need not trouble us too much).

Would I be correct in assuming you are up to speed on ensuring that your BADR Transponder listings are accurate - either by manual editing or by Blind Search (albeit Blind Search is about as much use as a Choccy Fireguard if you aren't aligned anyway!).
 
Hi, it's best to find a transponder that's not duplicated on either 28e or 23.5e and align the dish on that. Micro adjustments needed for this satellite :)
 
A cheapo satfinder from Maplin is useless for aligning a dish to 26E, because 26E and 28E tend to merge together as there is no frequency selectivity.

You need to tune to a 26E transponder and align the dish that way, 12182H is a very good choice as it does not occurr on 28E. Scan that and you should get Yemen TV.

May not be accurate enough for such a tight satellite. You could use the receiver on a transponder that's not duplicated on the adjacent satellites.
 
also as your using channel master dish, the fixed mount has a fine tune adjustment screw for the elevation, once you have found the arabsat satellite.

adjust this a little bit at a time to get the dish spot on.
 
The satellite finder did not register anything around 26e, the meter went all the way up for 28e and when scanning found all 28e channels but when i moved the dish slightly for 26e the finder did not register anything

It is the spacing of the satellites that is the problem. It should be suitable for loads of other satellites too. Though to be honest I ditched mine very soon after getting into the sat hobby, and got myself a 7inch portable TV and connect it to an old TM1000 receiver. I really didn't like using the satfinder, as there is no way of telling which sat you have.



EDIT:-

That is what I meant, the two sats MERGE together on a satfinder. So you will get a peak for 28E, then nothing else until you get to 23.5E. The 26E signal is hidden under the signal from 28E (there is no tuning!)
 
those sat finders which beep are s**** in my opinion get something like a digisat pro, very good for the money i use this for aligning my dishes, lcd screen with signal level bar to show your on a satellite.
 
I take it its not the receiver thats at fault since ive picked up 3 satellites today althogh they are probably the 3 easiest to pick up in 28e, 19.2e and 13e. i take it the receiver should be fine
 
Probably, the receiver is fine.
 
If the weather has been anything like it has been on my location you may have had problems with rain fade :eek:

I can usually get 26e no problem in my location, but this evening it just disappeared while we had heavy rain :-Nooo

Isn't this because you had a months rainfall in one day? I think this qualifys as heavy rain! :eek:

Probably, but not necessarily. There are lots of receivers out there that are crap for weak signals.

At least it's ok for 0.8W and 4.8E as well, (although on my multibeam dish after pointing to 13E, all the rest were actually within "beeping" range just from following the LNB guide calculator). But for fine tuning using a DVB-S card and running a dvbtune command to monitor the strength and S/N on a specific transponder is really the best way, at least for me.
