Hi,

I was wondering what the typical bandwidth demands per user might be for serving out a cardshare?
What would the minimum broadband service speed you would recommend for someone looking to access your cardshare?
I have a DM800 with a 10Mbit down/512k up internet service, very new to dreamboxing.

Thanks for any advice!

That should be enough provided you dont have a huge amount of peers.

Like all these things, the more speed the better.

Sorry I cant be more specific than this because, I cant give you the hard numbers.

Usage of your shares will vary, you might have say, 2 peers connected now, then all of a sudden you might have 75% of your peers connected while some big match is on, at which point your connection may struggle.

Thanks for the info!
I'm just going to start small with a few friends and see how that goes first, I guess when you get into bigger numbers I might need a better router too. I'm currently using a Linksys 54GS running DD-WRT firmware, hopefully that will be enough to cope with small scale cardsharing!

You should have more than enough bandwidth for that. Enjoy.:)

your upload speed is reasonable ok.

I have 2 mb down and 250k up. I dont have more than 30 peers and it runs smoothly....Personly why you would want more than 40 peers I would never know.

CS doesn´t need much bandwith, You can manage using an old analog modem :)

I monitored the traffic on my NewCS server right now. For one user there is one request of 172 bytes and one answer of 66 bytes every 10th second. That means 60.4KiB sent to the server and 23.2KiB received from the server every hour per user when they're active. Yes, that's KiB so you can definitely pull this off with an old analogue modem as dig deep suggests :-)
