Seen that trick before on TV, I think I saw it in "the real hustle" or something, very underhand and devious.... :mad:

Personally, if I'm at a cash machine I tend to have no money, so the "scuse me, you dropped something" trick wouldn't work, and I never look away from the machine until I'm done, AND I keep my hand over the card and cash slots (one after the other) until I have done what I was doing, so any attempt to steal anything would have to go through me, plus I tend to use machines where I know there are cameras around and I have a good look about before I start with anything...

It's a case of being vigilant, if you see someone loitering about, just find another machine, preferably attached to a bank where they're guaranteed to have CCTV watching...
 
Quite slickly done, but not sure whether I'd fall for that one, as I'm very aware of people behind or to the side of me when at a cash machine and generally don't use the ones in open locations like that.
 
Never really use 'em personally apart from the ones in the bank, certainly not the machines in open locations, fuel stations or corner shops.
 
Well I do use machines in open places as the banks are usually in most inconvenient places where you have to pay for parking (but that's another rant).

I like to think that I'm very vigilant but the video shows how easy it is to be scammed so in all honesty I couldn't say that I wouldn't have fallen for it.
 
My allowance comes each month in a brown paper envelope direct from SWMBO.

No idea where she gets it from.
 
I am afraid no matter how vigilant you are you just cannot safeguard against planned attacks by criminal gangs like that, the same as you cannot safeguard against a burgler who is prepared to risk bypassing your alarm systems by smashing his way in to your house.
 
Yes, but that isn't really an attack and I wouldn't use an open cash machine like that, plus I keep a good lookout at who's around, three far eastern looking guys very close by trying to appear like they're not together would make me suspicious. Actually asked on chap to move further away from me at a cashpoint once, which he willingly did.
 
If theres anyone around i don't use them. I also check the cashpoint for hidden cameras which can record my pin.

I always cover the key pad before i enter my pin. I also move my finger around in random combinations only pressing the number is use after 2 or 3 false pretend presses.

I'm not paranoid at all :-shifty
 
Sounds more like palsy to me - lay off the hard stuff, that's my advice!

I have a customer who lost his debit card in a Sheffield shopping centre, he'd never used the card while in there but his card was used to withdraw £500 from a cash machine and then soon after his card was used in a computer store to buy an item for £1500 both transactions used his pin number. His bank will not refund his money as they say they must have had access to his pin number! How did they get his pin number ? this is scary stuff :eek:
