Hmmm.

Decided from the positive reviews to go and visit the cinema last week.

IMO the only decent part were the opening animated credits, the rest was disjointed pap, sub-plots that didn't go anywhere, (NO CAR CHASES !!!!!!!), and a ludicrous ending, designed simply to get the viewer tied into seeing the next release.

Complete snorefest.
 
I disagree. I think that it was a brave move to take it into new areas of storytelling, especially Bond falling in love. It reminded me alot of Mission Impossible 1, which is far superior to the the M:I films.

Ahem, Bond got married before (- er, after - to Diana Rigg)

As for the brave moves, I thought the crane scenes were worthwhile, but the house collapse in Venice was farcical. Mind you, I could have done with a bit of defibrillation by end of the movie.

As a gauge of how good it was, - it is not a film I will sit through again, even if it's free.
 
Tom Cruise has taken over the role these days as the real Bond with the Mission Impossible movies.

Latest MI3 crushes Casino Royale easy when it comes to special effects and entertainment.

Bond was good back in the old Sean Connery and Roger Moore days.
 
It's supposed to be the best ever James Bond film; I am not a James Bond fan but I didn't mind Roger Moore in it, particularly all the jokey tongue in cheek stuff.

This new James Bond looks like a villian, and so I could never take him seriously. Just my two penneth!
 
Ah, but Timothy Dalton accurately portrayed the Bond from the books, even his offerings are now way down below Pier Brosnans in the ratings.

I suppose whatever floats the boat, asked the wife what was the high point of Casino Royale, and she said the beach scene some 30 minutes in.
Were there any plot/action/car chases at that time ? (I had drifted off by that time)

LOL, but then again, there were no car chases in 'The Passion of the Christ' either.

Sometimes its just not in the script, hehehe ;-))

Haven't watched the latest one yet, but was unimpressed with both Dalton and his (in my opinion) sterile portrayal and Brosnan with his "I am a serious actor" humourless performance.

Bring back Big Fry. :-lmao
 
My wife wanted to go to see the film when it was in the cinema but, having seen previews and reviews I wasn't keen.

I played it over the weekend and it was a bad as I thought it was going to be. Dour and humourless - where was the light hearted touch? The producers said that they were trying to bring Bond up to date but in my opinion they lost the plot completely. The series now has nothing to distinguish it from other offerings (certainly not the theme tune - instantly forgettable).

And there was talk of Bafta and Oscar recognition. Unbelievable. But then again I thought that "The Untouchables" was a pretty poor film made especially bad by a lazy performance by Sean Connery. And then he got an Oscar for it!!! I can precisely date my diasaffection for Sean Connery the actor from this point...

But back to Casino Royale. I left the room after 1/2 a hour to do something more interesting. I asked my wife what she thought of it afterwards, she said it was OK. Damming with faint praise?

The word that I think describes it all is ponderous.
 
I lasted less than 20 minutes before I got bored with it :(

SWMBO watched it but I went back to the computer.
 
it was billed as the best bond film ever???

to be honest its the best for a while yes... thats not hard though is it!

IMO unfortunately Sean Connery made the part his own, and each and every actor since has been compared to him. until we stop that, the series cant move on.
 
I watched it last week and would have been very disappointed had I paid to watch it at the cinema.

It was OK, that's about as complimentary as I can get, certainly humourless.
