I've done this in the past with many pre-recorded CD-Rs

Roxio suggests I can rewrite over the stuff ifexisting files cannot be deleted, however one here - a Verbatim 52x 700MB - has some read only files on it that refuse to go or be over written

Any ideas ?
 
Paper shredder or bonfire?

Seriously, copy anything off you want and then destroy the original.
 
Well that is contrary to what I have experienced over the years, a read only file on a CD R by definition cannot be deleted as the read flag once written cannot then be changed. Whilst attempting to do this on a hard drive invokes a message from Windows stating 'are you sure you wish to delete this file?' yes the flag can then be altered as a hard drive is RW. Indeed thinking about it I have had many CD Rs over the years that have no files at all written to them but were not even able to have a file written to them.

I note that entry is 2002 and yes in the early days a couple of companies whose software was being used to write Cds made mistakes and I suspect that is one of them, it would be interesting to see if anyone can repeat that exercise now...
 
That may be the issue. I was using an early version of Roxio (3 or 4 ?) up until a few months ago, but updated to something more recent when changing the operating system.
