Its exactly 25 years since Space Shuttle Challenger broke up during her 10th launch.

I can remember it like it was yesterday - hard to believe its 25 years ago. Even now looking at the video playback of the event on the BBC News website gives me shivers.

Yes, a horrific disaster, but on the other side, the findings confirmed a distinct lack of care over the production of components in the fuel seals.

Quality control irregularity was the cause, the tragedy gave the space programme no future excuse to cut corners.

2003 columbia accident investigation concluded that NASA had failed to learn many of the lessons of the challenger disaster

Ceremony today at KSC to commemorate the event.Available to view at nasatv.govSadly missed.I have family in Florida and have done the KSC tour e few times and was even inside the vehicle assembly building and saw the wooden mockups of the shuttle before it even flew.Quite humbling when you think of the sacrifices made in the name of progress
