You can get Waxoyl (Other rustproofing products are not as versatile IMHO) in Aerosol form and the can comes with a flexi-pipe (as per WD40 tins) for getting the stuff into crevices (I really, really hope Sonnetpete doesn't see this ............).

Unfortunately he has........aerosol form....be careful how you pronounce that..... but useful for getting into creviced parts....especially with a flexible pipe.......quick nurse, the screens.....

Whoohoo! Managed to lock Canadian Forces Network on 70.5E. So far, not long enough to scan the channels in... but it's there :D

Ha... not yet. Will see if I am asked to take it down first! Kind of visible on the balcony to dog walkers and cyclists and is just over the allowed 1m allowance.

Penta now rests in the garage with its pole still attached to the motor, so I can just swap it over with minimal alignment should the worst happen.

Hm, according to this site -http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/permission/commonprojects/antenna/ I can put a dish of up to 1.3M because my building is over 15m tall.

Buildings 15 metres high or more

Unless your building is in a designated area, you do not need to apply for planning permission to install a dish or other antenna on your property, as long as:

there will be no more than four antennas on the building overall;
the size of any antenna is not more than 130 centimetres in any linear dimension (not including any projecting feed element, reinforcing rim, mounting and brackets);
the cubic capacity of each individual antenna is not more than 35 litres;
an antenna fitted onto a chimney stack is not more than 60 centimetres in any linear dimension; and
an antenna mounted on the roof does not stick out above the roof more than 300 centimetres above the highest part of the roof.

No. There's a communal Sky dish on the front of the building, a DTT one and an FM one. Plus mine. Four in total :D

But who owns the building?

They are entitled to impose their own stringent constraints - and often do.

The developer, I guess. The Penta has been there for nearly two months and no-one said anything... I did ask my landlord and the letting agent before putting it up and they said it was OK as long as I didn't drill holes in the walls.

Let's hope they don't stick a DAB aerial up then!

Hah, actually I just looked and on the front they have a Sky dish, a Yagi type aerial, a round FM aerial and erm... some other looped thing (DAB?). So, that's 4 already :(

Anyway, doesn't matter. By the time I finish fighting them, I'll probably have to move again!

Back on topic... can someone take a look at Aden Live channel on 62E? I get a solid lock on it with plenty of margin but I only ever get a frozen picture on it and no sound. It's obviously supposed to be a moving picture as it changes if I flick the channels. The TP has a low SR of 2200 - is this something to do with Uno tuner not handling it? Although I am able to view other low SR channels so not sure what's happening there.

Can't actually check it at the moment CJ (PC is in the garden on another dish) but whenever I get that effect using the sat card it's down to the codec I'm using. Not sure if that's a possibility on an STB as I've only ever owned a Sky box lol

Welp, I put my Penta back on as I was getting a little concious of the Channel Master's presence there. Even walking past it in the street, it looks a little ... visible.

So I am back to 85cm dish now. The difference in signal strength was quite staggering between the two dishes on weaker satellites (at the very least +10% SNR on the Uno on most chans).

I wonder if anyone has done a comparison between the Penta and a 1m Gibertini, that might be a reasonable compromise for size and asthetics if there is a worthwhile increase in performance?

I would also be interested. I do remember that the roughly installed TD110 dish outperformed the Penta but not by much - maybe a few %SNR (due to the nasty elevation slider).

You may remember CJ, I have both a 1M Gibi and a Penta 85. Main focus on the Gibi is 7°W but I'd be willing to try and set up an LNB (off centre) on the Penta for 7°W and compare it with the Gibi. I'd be reluctant to swing the Penta round as I've got it perfect for the Nordic beams on 5°E LOL.
