Advice Needed Channel search/store Dreambox 7020S

My Satellite Setup
Just a basic 90cm fixed dish, single lnb and a couple of Spiderbox receivers
My Location
Scottish Highlands
Hi all, I’ve just dug out my two dream boxes (a 7000S and 7020S both running Darkstar II) that I’ve not used for several years. My newbie/hello post explains why. I currently only have access to 28.2E. When I got them working there are channel lists for 28.2E but very few channels work? I did a transponder search and it finds all the frequencies but won’t store them? I entered one new transponder for BBC channels using the parameters on Lyngsat. Again the receiver shows good signal strength and quality but when the search is complete it says no new services found? I did notice on the transponder lists a lot of the symbol rates and FEC’s are incorrect. I corrected some of them but it made no difference

…..ps, it found some new channels! The Ch5 group and Great Movies group so the search function is working ok
 
Please check the FTA channels, on 28.2E, using the parameters found on Lyngsat:

Are these old receivers capable of HD (S2) channels?
Can you please post more information, regarding the channels you've found, Frequency, FEC, polarity. e.g. 11305 H 27500, and 11306 V 27500, and post the signal quality readings.
 
Thr Dreambox is unlikely to have a demodulator that copes with the newer broadcast standards above standard definition

I would love to get a few older boxes with HDMI outputs running, but it is highly unlikely software alone would fix them.
 
I may be out of my comfort zone. But the 7020 states QPSK demodulation. None of the others schemes used today. Certainly a dated box with limits.

Thank you, I think you are right about the capability of the boxes now. They have an optical output (digital) for sound but only Scart sockets for video! The manual states DVB-S, DVB-T and DVB-C, NIMS compliance. I think the BBC channels are now all hi-def so the boxes cannot resolve the signals!

Yes, times and systems have moved on. I don’t think these boxes will now resolve the modern hi-def systems☹️

The old dreamboxes definitely do not decode DVB-S2 modulation, so the box will be unable to show the hundreds of channels that nowadays only broadcast in DVB-S2 (which includes all the BBC & ITV channels for starters).

Time has moved on, some of the satellites now broadcast exclusively in DVB-S2 and the old receivers are pretty much useless now

Thank you. A shame really as back in the day I fitted them with 250gbHDD’s and recorded loads of music videos. That’s about all they’re good for now just playing back my video collection
 
You can always get a newer Enigma 2 receiver, with hard drive, and transfer your recordings to that, by first sending them to your PC, although as the quality might not be that good I'd download music videos from Youtube, and tranfer them to a new receivers hard drive, but it's all personal taste.

That’s a possibility. I’ve got two Spiderboxes, two Dreamboxes, a Force receiver and a Manhattan receiver. I’ll need a clear out sale on Gumtree before investing in a new box lol
 
The old boxes are effectively worthless Im afraid - all my old unwanted kit has gone straight into the electrical recycling bins at the local municipal tip.

I think that’s the only route nowadays. Nobody wants old kit unless they like fiddling with electronics

Do Dream do a fully up to date Enigma 2 receiver? If so, what is the model designation please.
 
E2 boxes are totally different from E1. And are much like marmite - you love them or hate them. Most of the members on the forum love them, but a significant minority of us loathe them :-rofl2
 
There are a lot of different Enigma 2 receivers, that either have a caddy system, for a detachable hard drive, that you can fit a hard drive inside, or use a USB hard drive.

Hi again. I’ve decided to junk all my old receivers and invest in a new Enigma 2 model that has capacity for an 2.5” HDD drive. I’ve searched around the web and there’s a few names I recognise but a lot I don’t.
Could you please recommend the generally acknowledged best receivers around currently. Apologies asking but I’ve been off the scene for a few years and lost track of trends. Thanks in advance. Bob
