The freesat box in my caravan has been switched off since last October, I have now put it back on, with card, but cannot receive Channel 4 or 5. Also my freesat box at home is not receiving BBC Radio 1, 2, 3 4 or Radio Wales but gets all other radio stations. Help please

Hi, Welcome to the forum.

Please try and post in a relevant area, this was not a 'site access or membership problem'.

If the Sky freesat card is not used for a while, it will not receive a 'stay alive' signal from the satellite.

All you should need to do is to leave the box ON with the card in for a day or so and the channels should come back. I have heard that it sometimes works better if you leave it on one of the missing channels( I can't confirm).

Sorry, I don't know about the radio channels, has this box been left off as well?

Robbo:)

Rescan 28E - there were frequency changes for BBC radio a few weeks back.

Could you update your profile with what receivers you are using?

Are both boxes Sky Digiboxes? if not, what are they?

If you've lost BBC radio only, you must be using a free to air receiver. BBC Radio is now on 11954 H, you need to re- scan this frequency, or enter the frequency directly, it may not be on the stored transponder list .

Thank you for your reply,I have a pace skybox with a freesat viewing card, I really am a novice and would not know how to reset anything. I used to have the BBC radio channels with no problems. The box has not been switched off at all. I really miss my Sunday Archers. Thanks for any help

Switch it off, unplug it at the wall wait 30 seconds then power it all back up again.

Then report back and tell us if its worked :)

I have tried switching off and unplugging as you suggested but still no joy. I do get the BBC Radio 4 etc page as though it should be on, but no sound etc. Sometimes it then says 'no satellite signal being received' but the other channels work. Sorry for being so thick.

Ok try this Press this button sequence Services 4 4.

Then Add channels using these parameters 11954H
27.5
2/3

When the channels appear highlight the ones you are interested in using the yellow button. Press select when you are finished.

Then you should be able to access the channels using Other Channels (Services 6 on a standard sky box)

A bit clunky but if it works you at least get your channels back.

Hi
I followed your very clear instructions but no new channels came up. BBC Radio 5 is fine. I left the box on tuned to Radio 4 last night and this morning there is a a very crackly sound as though it is trying to come through.

The problem has the characteristics of poor south beam reception. This beam is much weaker in the the UK than Astra 2D, where these channels used to be. Your dish probably needs adjusting.

Radio 5 will be ok as it didnt switch over to the new frequency when the others moved - its stayed on 2D due to rights issues..

Can you get BBC News 24 & BBC Parliament? they are on the same frequency

Hello again,
I can get BBC News 24 with no problems, but NOT the Parliament Channell.

Think I will give up and buy a radio.

Thanks again

Hmm this is an interesting one. Have you bought a dect phone recently? 11954 is a bit outside of what I would have expected them to interfer with but its worth mentioning

No I have not changed phones, had the same phone for years. Can't afford to call anyone out so will just have to buy radio. Many thanks for all your help.

There is one last thing you could try - a forced software download

Hold the backup button on the front panel of the box down whilst powering the box up. It should take 10 minutes or so, and you will get a message on screen if your box is connected to the telly via scart.

Be aware that this has been known to terminally corrupt software if the signal is weak or the power supply unit is failing.

You could try picking a digibox up for a couple of quid from a local car boot sale. That would allow you to find out if its a box or a dish problem
