2200 round up - 1Russia & RTR Planeta had variety shows on and didnt have any real festivities on at the top of the hour.

Planeta Sport had the usual pre recorded tour of Red Square to the national Anthem.

The fireworks were on Russia Today

For 2200 there are loads of channels to chose from as we reach central Europe. Most of the national & regional broadcasters will be doing something. I cant cover all of them but just noted:


TVS (TV Silesia) 12303V on 13E has a Beatles tribute group on

LTV World on 5E has a classical concert on

Slovenia 1 has a pop concert on

BNT Sat Bulgaria on 16E has a pop concert on

TV Gelderland on 23.5E has a German style event on - and they are still an hour from midnight

Full of hairdressers swelling their bank balances, the two major broadcasters are living in Europe time this year so they will be celebrating in just under the hour.
Russia Today of course had the presidential speech just before 9pm our time, no snow in Moscow though which was a shame.

BBC Scotland appears to have an exceedingly unfunny "comedy" show on.

BBC England has a reasonable live show from HMS Belfast with the London Eye in the background.

But Im on RTPi Portugal which at least has a bit of life to it.

RTPi Portugal celebrations were obviously sponsored by Bock beer - they had a wonderful countdown clock of beer bottle tops! After midnight rather disappointingly they stopped with the studio show and just had quarter screen inserts of fireworks in Lisbon and Madeira. In recent years they went to Madeira harbour for the fireworks

Meanwhile BBC Scotland had the traditional piper strangling a cat on the Edinburgh Castle ramparts a few minutes before 12 before breaking to the Hogmanay fireworks
