Chasing Midnight New Years Eve 2010

VTV4 caused the shock of this years chasing midnight as they had a new year event on live

Well I'm gradually learning... things like Red Square being shown before midnight, not after, and the Azerbaijani and Kazakhstani presidents even earlier. Angela Merkel was on NDR just after 1905 too, but I only realised when I checked the recording so I only got the first few minutes... though that's probably enough of any of them!

Things on my list for next year are to maximise the signal I'm getting (might be skew, might be the cheap LN, possibly get a twin or more output LNB, and also an HDD recorder. I am sick and tired with DVD recorders, they are so hit and miss and I feel like a prat for singing their praises until recently. Useless.

Must get a recording of Dinner für Brot - always seems to be on at a difficult time but as useful as it is, Youtube just isn't the same is it. Will have to have a look at the TV schedules too, no idea why I've only just thought of doing that.

Nice to see the screengrabs, and thanks for the link to the page with the videos of Red Square Analoguesat. Interesting to see how similar it still is.

Only trouble with doing this from 11am to 6am each year is it makes new year's day seem even more boring than it already is. It's such a huge anticlimax!

I love those old vids of Moscow on that site I linked to earlier, I lived through the end of the Soviet Union and the establishment of the nation states.

I used to be a short wave listener and wrote letters to many of the stations My mum got more than one visit from Post Office officials asking why someone at that address was receiving post from strange countries

Round on 13E Video Bergamo are showingan outdoor concert. cant imaging it would be for the 2nd January so its probably the NYE concert

However, with a bitrate of just 800kbps the quality is just horrible

Maybe the PO thought I was a terrorist - I was actually a 16 year old fascinated by letters from the English services of overseas radio stations

I thought at the time that the snow falling on Red Square kind of gave the game away that the anthem views weren't live! They must film them at 4am or something a day or two before? The first couple of years I saw it, when I knew no better, I thought they had actually made everyone leave the area for midnight :-googly

I just find it fascinating to see how other countries celebrate it. Russia and some of the CIS states couldn't be much more different to us. Some other countries have concerts galas or religious gatherings. Then you get to us - we don't bother, except for the fireworks... great.

I listen to shortwave too but I'm afraid I'm more into utilities I'm afraid

The red square sequence was filmed in the summer sometime - in one shot you can see leaves on the trees. That film is a few years old - Ive seen it every year for quite a few years now. First time the weather has conspired to make it obvious its prerecorded though

Interestingly I think its slightly different from the official "New Year" clips listed on the video site.

Did anyone record the Red Square anthem and could put the sequence up on YouTube??

Bongs and anthem start at about 3:45. I almost uploaded the exact same thing because my recording is from RT!
