Im not going to start this New Years Eve thread with the usual first post introduction this year. (Hopefully I can reinstate it for Chasing Midnight 2021!) Thanks to the devastation wrought across the world by Covid 19 goodness knows what we are going to find in the annual Follow The Fireworks chase.... Due to the unusual circumstances Im starting this a few days earlier than normal to give me time to hunt down info about whats likely to be happening in the major cities we chase every year.

As far as I can tell the current situation in some of the cities is:

1100 Auckland - going ahead as normal
1300 Sydney - going ahead but ticketed viewing only, no general admittance to the public, with many viewpoints closed or restricted.
0000 London & Edinburgh - cancelled completely, no doubt some sort of virtual event will take place.

So despite the horrendous circumstances of 2020 - Same procedure as last year??

If you are new to this and want to join in the fun you need acces to 13E & 19E - and if possible 22W for the Reuters newsfeed.

EDIT - As usual I shall close this now & reopen it for discussions just after Christmas day

France isnt planning any restrictions so things may well go ahead more or less as normal.

We're all under curfew from 8pm till 6am and that includes New Years Eve, so I don't know if the celebrations will go ahead, unless it's virtually..
 
Things keep changing so Im expecting many celebrations to be off, especially as the numbers of the new variant virus which is more transmissable are slowly increasing in many countries
 
This new variant had hit well over half of European countries by Christmas Eve, so I would suggest that by now every bordering region has got it, regardless of the media confirmation. With five days to go and more migration on the cards there is likely to be some major disruption for broadcasting the celebrations.

Airline self importance and the want for people to travel, without an actual need is firmly behind this one.

You would think,that there would be more effort,in making this year’s ”celebrations”,even more spectacular given the circumstances and the likelihood of increased television viewers than previous years

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei 101 has scrapped the New Year’s Eve party to be held at its observatory amid tightened coronavirus measures after Taiwan reported a local infection earlier this month.

The Taipei 101 fireworks display along with the City Hall New Year’s Eve concert will still go ahead.
