I assume we will be running the usual end of year Follow the Fireworks fun on the forum?
Usual routine, tune into Auckland midnight at 1100 UK time then work our way westwards across the time zones seeing what weird & wonderful celebrations we can find, no doubt a smattering of wrinkly rockers and an awful lot of fireworks!

For those of you that havent seen the format before the usual firework highlights are

Auckland
Sydney
Taipei
Pyongyang(!) - had an excellent display in recent years
Dubai
Berlin or one of the German cities
London

Channels are all almost all watched via FTA channels on 13E during the day, the Germans on 19E & a few news channels on 28E. There are always a few contributors chipping in with some of the other birds - eg the Ukrainians & Baltics on 5E and whatever other oddities we can find on the other birds across the European arc.
There is also the opportunity to watch the classic Dinner For One on 19E.
The Reuters news feed on 22W is also a useful one to have access to as they tend to have the full displays from main cities on.

Same procedure as every year?? :-rofl2

Notes for 2023:
Goodness knows what will be happening this year what with the ongoing war in Ukraine & the Israel / Gaza conflict.
Dinner For One was virtually unknown in the UK until I discovered it on on the German channels on my folks old Sky analogue system about 30 years ago. Chatting about it on the forums in the intervening years has led to a bit of a cult following now :) Its got well enough known had a couple of showings on UK tv in recent years :-rofl2

As usual I'll close this for now & reopen it a few days before NYE
BTW - the first record I can find of Chasing Midnight here is way back in 2004, with annual occurences since 2007!

Unlocked after Christmas as promised.

Goodness knows how NYE will pan out this year what with major conflicts in Israel & Ukraine......

Separately at the same time the Sheikh Zayed Festival is set to break three (might be four) new Guinness World Records in terms of quantity, time and formation, amazing visitors with a unique experience with a major firework display that will last 60 minutes

They even haven't confirmed all the actors and actresses yet and making of this prequel is postponed.

"An emirate in the United Arab Emirates, one of few Arab states that has official ties with Israel, has banned New Year's Eve fireworks this year as an expression of solidarity with the people of Gaza.

The decision was announced in a Facebook post by Sharjah police, warning on Tuesday that legal measures would be taken against those found violating the ban."

There was a satellite feed available last year which was receivable in Europe. For me Ras Al-Khaimah was the best display last year but take that with a pinch of salt, each year is different.

There will probably be an online stream available aswell.

No longer on satellite - it left 7W in March according to the KoS entry. I cant find a styream for the channel either. yet....

so,these fireworks will be invivible to non-locals...

In Europe, good feeds could be available at 7 East, like last year.
In 2022 I watched fireworks all around the world, from Auckland to New York.
So it could happen again.

That’s a shame, would have been,a hopefully new addition to our tradition

For some - I wouldnt watch it - Im sick of the lack of imagination in tv & film making these datys. Its very lazy production making prequels, sequels or "reimagining" some ancient old tv series.

Hello, I'm about to setup for tomorrow... Apart from Reuters on 22w is there any other satellites worth looking at? Like 52e? Maybe
