Cheap inclinometer

I found the silver line one to be the most accurate, but that was about 1/2° out. And I have already sent of for A digital protractor.
 
If I would have only sent for one, and got the one that's a fair bit out, I would struggle to get a signal after 10 E, that's how far its out :eek:

The black inclometer I had was 3.5° out :-( so I used my silver line one, that's only .5° out, and I will wait for my digital thing from China :-)
 
.........but back to my old method, the STB.

Will still take some beating.....cumbersome maybe but it works.
Today and with the new extended threaded bolt on the 1.8m that Brian fitted I measured the exact mm distance from the bottom locking nut to the bolt end on 2 x different sats 5.0ºW and 30.5ºE C-Band, moved from one to the other and locked the frequencies in a matter of secs, yes u still have to fine tune but it aint far off.
Still think that the fine tuning of a sat relates to your own setup and not across the board settings, depending totally on your setup re: LNB, skew, accuracy on installation ie: plumb wall/floor mount/stand.etc, etc.
Pro tools got to be better but your own initial install has basically got to be right or the pro stuff is going to be difficult to improve errors.

Only my thoughts but as M has said.....gone back to basics..... but did spot that 'The pole was slightly out of level'.

Still great that we do not totally depend on technology. :(

My favorite method also ( if you have the patience ) true and tested with the stb concerned for fringe reception, my gibby 125 is pole mounted @ 150cm height so take the stb ( techno 5402 mk2, wish I had the mk1 ) connected to a 12" crt tv ( also used a 19"lcd tv ) and fine tune to best reception from astra 2E psb tps, funny thing is not a wiff of tps from astra 2F psb channels.
Saving up for a larger dish but have other priorities ATM:D

Hi skomedal, that's all I have ever used in the past, until today and it was short lived, i used to like my TM 1500 for setting up until it packed in its the most sensitive box i have ever used.

One of the main parts of my hobby is chasing the hard to get signals for dish size, ive spent weeks just for one tp from one satellite so i do have patience,

Good luck with the new dish, i have had mine over a year now and its still not installed, but looking forward to chasing the hard to get with this one :)
 
Your in Sheffield with a 1.8 how are you getting the Russian beam at 36E and 17E could you post your results up ?,
Unfortunately I can not get anything on 36 east at the moment, the tree that's in the way is slowly dying.
 
The problem I've found with using angle gauges and levels is that you don't take into account errors introduced by the motor clamp/motor interface,the dish clamp and the dish backing plate.I've used a plumb line and manage to get from 30W to 57E,couldn't get above 42E before.For the East-West vertical check send the motor to zero(reference) and carefully make an accurate scribe mark on the motor elevation scale.Then lower the elevation until you can put a plumb line from the top dead centre of the front of the dish and it should line up with the middle of the lnb arm.For the North-South check,with the motor at zero,adjust the motor elevation to 30(for Technomate motors) and the motor arm should be vertical.You can check from the side with the plumb line,held in place to make it easier.This way worked for me.Cheers
