My Satellite Setup
1.0m Motorised TM5400ci super Toshiba laptop
My Location
South East
1.0 mtre steel dish and exposed.

I thought I needed metal geared motor because of site and weight.
Some OPs have been claiming noise as an issue with the Dark motor.
Equally I dont want the gears stripped in 3 months.
I dont really want to spend more than £70.00.

After reviewing posts the 3 motors I am considering are the

Motec
Technomate
Darkman may be the Superior model

I'm still favouring The Darkman with metal gearing but I am happy to be convinced otherwise. Are the noise and gear stripping issues real?

Technomate seems OK, have installed a couple, Moteck is good and reliable, haven't tried the Dark motor, but it is a lot of money compared to the others.

I would definatly go for the first or second on your list. They are very reliable. I have installed all three.

SM :)

I've got the Darkman. I've used it a lot in the last 4-5 months and it has proved very reliable and accurate.

Yes, I think it is noisy though. I've not used a motor with nylon gears, so can't truly compare it, but I don't tend to swing the dish around much after 10pm for fear of upsetting the neighbourhood. O-zzz :-rofl2

The Moteck is near silent.

Thanks chaps...price differential is significant...Motec it is then.

I'm still slightly concerned about stress caused by driving a heavy steal dish is the Motec up to it?

Do you happen to know what dish it actually is and how expossed it will be ?

Don't know name of dish its old been up for over 10 years but site is exposed, not above roof line but house is high compared to surroundings. No trouble in that time.

If it isn't above the roof line it shouldn't be a problem.
